Hello everyone. I just got my first ever eclipse a couple of weeks ago. an 04 gts. The person I got it from spent a lot of funds and time customizing the car. Body kit and rims and pipes and such. I like it alot and will likely be spending alot of time on here.

anyways the auto tranny when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd it acts funny and eratic like. Sometimes (more so when its cold) the tranny shifts real slow with the motor reving up alot in between the shift. It takes like maybe a half a second between 2nd and 3rd. There is no jerking or slaming into 3rd when it does finally engage but it still seems llike maybe something isn't right. It is also strange in that at other times it shifts into third quickly and what I would consider normally. The car has 14000 miles on it.

How can I fix this slow shifting and is this normal with these cars?
Maybe I could find a shift kit or something to throw in the tranny? And maybe change the fluid?

Did you check the tranny fluid level?

I did check it. It was a litttle above the word "hot" on the dipstick but below
the top crooked curve on the dipstick when the cars warmed up. The dipstick itself seems hard to read and understand

Im pretty sure the fluid level is good enough. It could possibly be the wrong fluid (dextron) in it but I have no reason to believe it is other than something is causing the eratic 2nd to 3rd shift. I am already planning on changing the fluid sometime soon unless learn of something else causing the slow shifting or unless I learn it is normal of these trannys. I know Ive read here that a computer controlls the trannys in these cars. That might explain the eractic part of my problem.

Maybe I could throw a shift kit in there during fluid change if there is shift kit available?

I believe your tranny should reach 80 degrees before it goes normal, especially when its cold. That is based on what other people say about theirs. :gitara:
