I bought my car at the end of January. My car was made like May of 2007.
In December, Mitsubishi came out with an update for the Lancers GPS which my car didn't get.

For those who got the updated software.....did you notice much of a difference in the maps?

My dealership is trying to tell me that I wouldn't see much of a difference & that I shouldn't worry about it. I told them that it doesn't matter.....there has to be some sort of updated information with the update & therefore I want it.
It is just silly to me. The GPS can't find my house that has been built now for 2 years. It can't find the dealership that I bought the car from that has been there for 14 years.....what gives???!

I have an open case # about the free update & I don't plan on backing down.....I bought a new car & therefore it should have come with the updated stuff. I argued that if there was a recall on the vehicle that the recall would have been performed on the car before I bought it & had taken possesion of it.....then why can't the map info be done as well?

What are your thoughts?

Are you in a densely populated area? Small suburbs probably aren't the cartographers highest priority.

I also bought a car that had out dated maps. I got my car in December but it was built much earlier. The new update came out right before I bought my car and I complained long enough to get the updates. It wasn't easy and it did take multiple calls to Mitsubishi Corporate and opening a case. Finally they gave in and told the dealer to order the part and they would pick it up under warrantee (not that I cared how they did it as long as it was free for me)...

When I went to the dealer to get it installed it took 90 minutes of the car running (yes for some dumb reason you can't do this unless its running) and it has to be stationary. They put a DVD in as well a key fob thing in that hole at the bottom of the screen when you flip the screen open. It updates from the DVD and then writes to that key fob so you can't buy one disk and update multiple systems (I already tried since my friend bought a Lancer also with outdated maps).

After it was done I noticed a difference because there was a dealership in my area that was new that wasn't listed previously. I also saw some menu items change around a bit.

I say fight for it and get it. Even if you don't notice a change why should it be outdated? I feel that if they update the thing every year I will probably get the updates every other year or every 2 years because they are so expensive. I just wanted to start with the latest and greatest.

The two things I wish it had was when it tells you to take turns, it told you the street name instead of "Turn Left". My old portable Garmin did say turns by street name and I liked it a lot. The one built into the Lancer doesn't so that sort of sucks.

The other thing I wish it has was different points of interest. I would rather it find movie theaters, bowling alleys, and other fun stuff over a casino that is over 200 miles away or a winery that I can go to if I liked wine and it wasn't over 80 miles away. :right:

My dealer was nice enough to replace the Nav unit, differences noted so far include: when you change the climate control settings it is now visible on the screen. More POI'S and a different interface screen to access them, and as pointed out before Mitsubishi dealers are now included as a POI.

That is a little Extreme to replace the whole unit instead of just doing the update.

Random Question - Nav Version

I just bought a 2009 Lancer GTS with the Nav. I know, fresh off the boat. Anyway, the nav shows 2006 as the latest update. I'm in the same situation where I'm in a house 18 months, and the street name should be on the map, but it isn't. I guess it is a small consolation that the streets are there, but I can't set my house as my home.

I talked to the dealership, and supposedly its got the latest version they have. I'm just trying to figure out if they're telling me the truth or not.

I'm definately enjoying the car, but it seems a little strange that the maps are 18-24 months out of date.

I don't have the update yet but the corporate office told me it was a 2006 map for the newest update so you should have the newest update on your navi. But wow just a 06 map? I would think it would be atleat an 07 map only because I believe its usually a year behind

Everytime that I ask about updates.....I keep getting told the same thing.........

Mitsu is kinda behind on their updates.....really ya think??! They are telling me that it takes them a whole year tyo compile the information & to get it ready for our GPS units. Just crap if you ask me. GLAD I am keeping my Garmin as a back up....silly I have to keep it as a back up.
It's sad that my 1 1/2 year old Garmin has a WAY more updated map than my brand new Lancers......

Well......they are going to update the maps for me. Goofy thing about it....they want ME to pay for the update through the dealership & then fax my receipt to my case manager & then Mitsu is "supposed" to cut me a check. What a stupid way of doing things....but as long as I get it who cares....

It will be updated as soon as my tires get there....so I'll be saving time & getting them both done the same time.

I checked the Nav system tonight, after getting home, and it noted Jan of 2006 as the Map age.

I would have thought that Mitsu would have licensed the nav technology from someone else, like Garmin, and then just wrapped it with the Mitsu logo.

I do plan on sending a email to the new sales manager at the dealership I bought it from, just to have him look into it and verify for me that the parts and service departments are telling me the truth. Something along the lines of "blah blah blah JD Edwards survey blah blah blah nine instead of 10 blah blah blah." That should light a fire under him, right? ;)

Yeah, he ordered the wrong part, all I asked for was the update disc, so he installed it anyway.

Well they updated my GPS this morning. At least it can find my house now.
I need to play with it more, but it seems to work even better than before.
I was told that it would take 90 minutes. I don't know what happened, but it took them almost 3 1/2 hours! D@mn that sucked! Even they don't know why it took so long.....
Goofy, I will post back after I find out what differences there are...before & after.

What rev is the map?

If its newer than 1 2006, I need to talk to my dealer and schedule some time for them to take care of this for me.
