Yeah 60-70K is usually the recommended Timing Belt/Water pump replacement time for the 8G galant. I was recommended this by the dealer too. I changed my timing belt at 95K though, but it's worth it to change it before that, as the damage that can happen from a bad timing belt is a lot worse than the cost of the timing belt change. You can usually get it done at the dealer in 1 day if you drop it off in the morning.

I wouldn't push it past 60k. Timing belt>engine rebuild.

Well, based on Mitsubishi manual ('99 Lt V6) it depends on the sate you live in.

It is stated that belt should be replaced at 60K, but for California, Massachusetts and Connecticut it is not required to change at 60K. On other hand, belt is required to be changed at 100K if it was not changed at 60K.

Can someone explain to me logic of different schedule for Ca? I would not imagine that timing belt performs different in 3 out of 50 states.

Thanks,

Vadim

it has nothing to do with the actual climate... its based on ridiculous laws in those states.

the timing belts are EXACTLY the same on all the cars.
