This is my first visit (and post :)) to an Eclipse forum -- guess it's about time since I've been a GSX owner since Jan 1990.
My vehicle's down right now and I'm going over it doing various things, some of which I probably should have done way back -- one being seatcovers. I just installed a set in my Scion xB from an eBay store that were very reasonably priced and both look and fit VERY well ($80 shipped.) I spotted a set of inexpensive covers billed for 1990-1994 Eclipse at another seller's store and took a shot. Unfortunately, these are a definite step down -- not only don't the rear covers allow for the seat buckles and back latches and releases, but the front ones are both too short for the seat, and WAY too short for the back! Cheap and inconvenient is one thing (I can live with the rear), but even for $56 shipped, I expect the covers to at least be roughly the right size :(!
So, whle I wrangle with that seller, I'm still hoping to identify a set of front and back seat covers that are both reasonably affordable, and provide a reasonable fit! Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks -- Trevor

What I think he meant by "True dsm'r" is someone who is into these cars not for the appearance factor, but more for the speed factor. You know, the turbo 4g63t guys. Most of which could care less if the bumper is being held on with bungie cords, so long as the car is running 11s when it actually starts up.
But as far as most is concerned, a DSM usually only refers to the Mitsu Eclipse (1990-1999), Eagle Talon and Plymouth Laser. Granted, there were many cars that had DSM plates under the hood (Mirage/Summit/Colt, 3kgt/Stealth, etc...) My old 92 Summit had them even... and then it got a 4g63 in it too!
...and YES, it does stand for Diamond Star Motors - the combination of Mitsubishi (Diamond) and Chrysler (Star).
As for the seat covers... Personally I'd either re-upholster my own seats or buy a set of Corbeaus before going with seat covers. Unless they are in horrible shape and you're getting stabbed with metal and you need a band aid for it.

Sounds like I'm definitely NOT a "true DSM'r" :)! I love the car, always have since I first saw and later drove it in 1989. I've barely ever made use of the turbo feature -- I'm a pretty laid back driver, but I love its handling and the AWD is great for bad road conditions. QUOTE(endlessmyk @ Mar 30 2008, 12:35 AM) As for the seat covers... Personally I'd either re-upholster my own seats or buy a set of Corbeaus before going with seat covers. Unless they are in horrible shape and you're getting stabbed with metal and you need a band aid for it. Only the driver's seat is worn, and even then it's just surface fabric fraying on the seat piping and side adjacent the driver's door -- no actual rips, tears, or other separations, etc. Outside of that, plus some sun fading, the seats are perfect. My preference is to simply preserve what I already have by covering them. I realize lots of people on vehicle forums have something of either a perfection or gearhead orientation, but I just expected a forum that isn't explicitly devoted to show cars or performance would also have a population of more easy going types who might be open to such things. However, one never knows until one tries the water :).

Just found a photo and I don't think so. This is beginning to look like a pretty hardcore enthusiast type of Forum! DSM'r territory :)? QUOTE(Lewiman06 @ Mar 30 2008, 03:42 PM) your fine here. a lot of the people who can answer your questions are "true dsm'rs" though. what kind of seat covers are you looking for? is all seats covered a must? and what color? with our seats you can't really run universal seat covers (so autozone type stores are out) i mean they'll fit but be way tight and hard to get one. so get back with what color and what not and i'll see what i can come up with. Thnks for the encouraging words :)! My GSX is white with a black roof. The upholstery is oem grey, and it looks fine, except that time (as in sunlight) is not being friendly. My current interest is simply going with grey/black seat covers, preferably for and aft, to tidy things up and maintain consistency (nice would be grey centers w/ black to each side, OK would be all grey.) The covers I just received would have been satisfactory, if it wasn't for the total size miss on the buckets :(! Hopefully, the guy just sent me the wrong ones, though I've no confidence in that explanation. They don't have to make the car look beautiful, I'm a utilitarian kind of person, they just have to protect the oem fabric from further decline. My current mileage is 123k, and I plan on at least another 60k (I keep cars 'til they die :)!)

QUOTE(EMC 3000gt @ Mar 30 2008, 03:51 PM) You can find the stock seats in good condition for about $100. QUOTE(Lewiman06 @ Mar 30 2008, 03:53 PM) just sold mine, really good condition, 50$. Wow, people sell the whole seats, eh? I've just repaired my driver's seat for-aft slide, it died a few years ago. Now the car's down, it's a great time to resolve the gradually growing catalog of issues :)! Those seats are heavy -- and I don't know what range of colors they came in.

(IMG: http://thumb13.webshots.net/s/thumb3/2/3/89/120820389yPDdMX_th.jpg) That is the tiniest photo of seats I have ever seen... Anyway, Corbeau makes a few different styles of seats... http://www.corbeau.com/prod_index/prod_index.shtmlAs you can see, they've got fixed back seats, reclining seats... hell, even office chairs. Seat covers don't usually look good, IMO. I think they pretty much always end up looking tacky. In the end, it's your choice, and you can find people getting rid of the seats all over the different forums. Granted, I like my interiors clean. Old headliner was sagging, drove me crazy. So, I ripped it all down, picked up some charcoal felt and redid it along with the side panels in the door. To each their own, I just don't like how they end up looking. BTW, if you ever wanna give up your Talon, I'd be more than happy to take it off your hands. Sounds like you've taken decent care of it.

well, i don't really like seat covers, but, is not my car though, lol. if you are looking into racing seats, you might wanna think if you are keeping the rear seat or not, or how to making it match, many people get rid of it cuz is hard to fit anybody in there anyway, i think i'm going to do the upholstery on mine with some leather maybe, so, all my seats will look the same. at least you are not using your soccer team jersey as a seat covers, lol

Guess I stumbled across the barest minimalist sled seat they make when I was hunting :)! I tried to link a larger image, but was prevented -- only the thumbnail was linkable. As I said above utilitarian :)! Covers can look decent if they fit well and are appropriately color coordinated (the above mentioned Scion set is amazing at the price.) At $55 shipped, the ones I ordered would certainly not have been great, but if they had actually fit (as in been installable), then I could have got by fine with them.
