Hi there first post out of desperation!!! many thanks for any help in advance.

i've a 2001 L200 with slow starting issues, it starts with a fairly long turnover then chugs away smoking like a good un then clears and runs fine. I've changed the glow plugs and the bar is getting power though only for about 3 seconds and stops once the engine starts. This means it smokes more a couple of seconds after startup than when it first starts.
Coupled to this its also slow to start on warm startups. i've renewed the diesel filter and find I can bleed air out regularly. This has done it with 2 filters so far, could this be a sign of a dodgy Injector or lift pump? truck runs well the rest of the time though does have some smoke on acceleration though not too excessive

this sounds like a fault in the diesel pump, a test you could do

1 fit clear pipes to the pump temporary run car until no air remains in fuel then leave stood for a while check for air bubbles if there are its getting air in system from pump backwards

tho i cant see the car it sounds like a fault on the timing control valve which controls fuel pressure build up on startup, this is in the diesel pump and is difficult to test I'd recommend a diesel specialist as the main dealers may charge a small fortune....Wayne
