That's what you have to do. There is no thread.

ugh....this thing was hell to take off....I changed mine a while ago, so I'll try to explain it best of my abilities.

first u gotta pull off that lower silver plastic park.....grab it real tight and pull down...its really on there btw....they way i did it, was grab the si;lver part with my dominant hand really hard and use ur other hand to bang on ur hand.

after u get that plastic piece to go down, u are going to reveal a clip system. you have to get 2 small screwdribers, there will be 4 holes, 2 on each side of the knob. and upper one and a lower one. stick the screwdrivers on each side of the lower one....push in and lift up...and wahlah....

it is really hard to explain i'm sorry....if I can find a camera I'll make avideo....it would be so much easier to explain

I got the silver sleeve off i had to cut the **** thing off so there is no going back now. But I cant pull the knob up when i depress those little tabs i cant even tell if i am pressing them. A friend of mine and I tried for an hour and everytime i tried to pull up nothing woudl happen. Do you have any other advice for doing this?

I already broke the silver sleeve off so its either put my new one on or drive around with it looking shotty.

thaks

Here is a DIY on removing the shift knob for the CVT. I hope this helps.
