My mr2 buddy and me got into an argument, he says that it doesnt matter what size rims you have as long as you have the hp. which i sort of agree on, but i also think that you cant go to big and you cant have to small. so my question is really what size rim is good for street racing and strip racing?? i have the stock 16 OZ's on mine, he has 18's on the back and 17's on the front. should i go with a setup like his or go with all 17's or 18's????????

1. Why does he have two size rims on an MR2?
2. Small rims=more revolutions to get to equal speeds but less weight
3. big rims=less revolutions but more weight
4. when dealing with centripetal force the weight that is spun around is multiplied by four (I think it's four). So getting that 18 inch rim to go down a strip means unless it's a GramLight or Motegi wheel it weighs about 25 pounds. 25x4=100 100x2wheels=200 pounds. A math major tried to explained this one to me. It's something along these lines. wither way when centripetal force kicks in he's pushing 200 pounds of wheels down the track.

drag racing=14-16 inch rims for initial go power
circuit racing=16-18 for top end

it all depends smaller wheels spin quicker to accelerate faster bigger wheels hold better speed i personally go with a 16 or 17 with 45 or 40 tires unless im ony drags then my drgs are a 14 with like 90 tires 10 inch wide all around. but my street are 16s with 45 tire and 225 wide.

Its been proven anything over 18 will screw up a car's handling. And only use 18's if 17's can't clear the calipers.

Plus, the smaller the wheel the less weight.

Ya buddy don't know what he's talking about ;) Yes tires to big WILL SlOW YOU DOWN Not because of weight but because of resistance.

Like the other guy said weight is one factor also the wind but the main thing is the resistance to turn where the rubber meets the road.

16 would be idleal but 17's is about as big as you could go while keeping it looking good while keeping resistance low.

Sorry too tired explain right now but I'm sure I some of the other guys can expalin it better than I can.
