Does this eBay advert make any sense? The price is certainly right!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-MITSUBI...emZ220221003119

Nope! I guess not -- I have a TD05H in the car! I've sent an email asking if he has the one I need and the cost, also cost of rebuilding mine.

===============================================

Now, this looks like a good match!

http://www.spooledmotorsports.com/turbocha...er_Manual_2.0L)

And another (free shipping)!

http://www.extremepsi.com/store/customer/p...=1&veh=1G%20DSM

And used!

If you ever... ever, buy a JDM turbo for your Eclipse I will personally have your IP address banned. A contract out for you. And something else really bad!!!!

An eclipse has nothing on it jdm... why because the car was never imported or exported. Built and sold ONLY in the USA. Canada happened to sneak a few over the border but thats about it.

Are you looking to stay Stock?

Uh, oh! NOW you have me SERIOUSLY worried :(!

My main concerns are that it be competitively inexpensive (or less :)), no lesser performer than stock, and that it be drop-in (waste-gate and all) -- no intake or exhaust system modifications. Having just dropped $500 on a rebuilt stock ECU (lifetime warranty), it has to be drop-in in that sense as well.

This repair project has run up a fair number of dollars already, and this turbo problem was definitely NOT expected :(!. Still, the car is 18 years old with 120K+ miles, and one can't expect turbochargers to last indefinitely -- I guess it was just time, better now than a year from now!

Still, I'm open to considering alternative solutions, but the cost MUST stay down.

I still say your turbo is fine.

Have you checked for shaft play is it smoking?

I have no problem with the idea of it being fine, but for something that is supposed to be fairly easily moveable by hand, there is absolutely no willingness to move that I could detect (regardless of direction!) So, you think it's all my imagination and in reality, there's plenty of boost! However, since the gauge doesn't show it -- I'm freaked? Sorry, I don't buy it.

Well, other than doing some dismantling, the only other thing I can do is take it to the dealer for them to diagnose the problem. If I'm just making it all up, they'll tell me there's no problem. According to the ECU, there is indeed no problem. However, it doesn't appear to have any codes associated with the turbocharger itself. The car seems to run and behave perfectly, with exception of a dead zone where the turbo used to be. (Plugs and leads are brand new -- engine runs smoothly.)

Appears I should do some dismantling before ordering a replacement.

As per post #10
QUOTE(TrevorS @ Apr 11 2008, 03:25 PM)
Got a turbine report!  I could only get a couple fingers into that central intake (too many obstacles), but they definitely couldn't budge the turbine -- either direction.  So, given the ECU and BCS are apparently one and the same, the turbine was my next logical culprit, and sure enough.  Looks like the car is going to have to go down again :(!

The two fingers referred to are my forefinger and middle finger -- the strongest two.

New? From a junkyard? That's a new concept for me :)!

$1000? Way too much! I'm targeting rebuilt for under $500!

By the way, thanks for the supportive sentiment!

I'm currently distracted with a keyless access install, and am hoping it will be complete tomorrow. If it survives real world testing, then my attention will be back on the turbo issue. Fortunately, the car was designed to survive turbo lock-up, so although I miss its contribution, the car remains drivable. And if EMC 3000gt is right that I'm imagining the whole thing, then I certainly hope all others avoid whatever drug I accidently ran afoul of :(!

You got my attention :)! I'm in line! Where can I get a replacement drop-in turbo for $150? I'm practically salivating at the prospect! (I'm also taking the idea with a few grains of salt over the shoulder :)!)

Thanks for the suggestion! Looks like my next Eclipse project will be exhaust manifold and turbocharger removal. I'll probably try to tear the turbocharger down and see how far I get. It's good to know I can get back up for FAR less than the dealer would charge :)!

Although I hate to have to kill the car when I've just got it running, I've had a few days to get used to the idea -- so that's just life :(!

What!?

Its like 8 bolts (that will be rusted to hel l)
some rubber couplers

And some muscle and the turbo is out.

oh and the oil and coolant lines.

If I remember correctly the 14b is no longer made so you need to find a used one or a rebuilt one. But you can go 16G and I don't think theres much more that you have to do.

And it would be around 1000 at the most. You'd also be pushing about the as an EVO.

I just hope I won't have any bolt breakage issues. Time for lots of Liquid Wrench I guess! $500 max is quite enough for me -- $1000 is beyond the pale!

Is it practical to rebuild these suckers -- or is frozen the death knell?

Is that equivlent to saying I probably can't rebuild it myself -- particularly if it's frozen? I know you can purchase "rebuild kits", but I don't know anything about the practicalities of it. I'm presuming the "a little less than 16g" is referring to the cost of a professional rebuild?
