The actual rebuild is pretty simple... but I doubt you have the machine to balance it at home.

So what you're saying is rebuild only works if you have the equipment to balance the compressor shaft! Otherwise, the only possibilty is to purchase either used or "professional" rebuilt?

That would be the only smart way. Technically you can rebuild it, but for a little more then the price of the kit and the sale of your shot turbo you could have a professionally rebuilt 14b.

You just have to keep your eyes open.

No question, I'm seeing a rebuilt 14b in my future! Looking like roughly $450! A shame about the $150, would have been great :)!

You can probably find one cheaper. Thats getting close to 16G territory.

For 450 get a 16g. You can get a rebuild kit and DIY, however just know that if you don't balance it at all, it will probably grenade, and if you do balance it yourself it will last less than a professional rebuild.

I plan on rebuilding my t25 and selling it as i just got my 14b for my 95 :D

Guess it's time to order a rebuilt 14B! Finally finished my keyless entry install (except for the balky liftgate unlockl), and next is to install mudguards and sill guards on my Scion (been waiting for them to arrive for two months :(!.) By the time I'm done with that and perhaps even making a replacement rear shelf for the Eclipse, the rebuilt will likely arrive and it will be time to get serious! Just crossing my fingers on those darned exhaust system bolts :(!

Just been doing some reading about the TD05H turbo and learned the "14b" designation refers to the compressor wheel (whereas the TD05H refers to the turbine). It seems the 16g compressor also fits the same housing and results in what's called a "stage 1" upgrade.

So, does this mean that I could install a "small" TD05H 16g in my '90 GSX with all other components being stock, including wastegate and ECU? (I understand "small" refers to the housing size -- also available is "large" which can support the 20g compressor.)

Yes, I believe you can send your 14B to a good shop, and they can convert it. .. I think

Otherwise a brand new 16G is $545 At extrememotorsport.com Great shop great people. Very fast shop car.

So it sounds like all my other stock components (ECU, etc) should play fine with it -- true? (Sorry for being so careful on this point, but I have to.)

When I look for that website, this is what I get:

I emailed questions to extrememotorsports.com and an eBay "Motors" rebuilder that offers stage 1 14b upgrades. Between the two, I ought to be able to place an order.

PS. Took the GSX out for a short trip (errand) today and God it was nice :)! Not as tight as it once was (after 126K), but I really didn't realize how much I missed it (down for three months.) It's a smoother drive than my Scion (even though without turbo, the '08 xB has a clear power to weight advantage), and the clutch/gearbox are behaving beautifully. Although the ride is harsher, it feels so right it's ridiculous! (Of course, I HAVE owned it for 18 years :)!)

Milit- because you have to get it balanced professionally. There is cost to you.

Trev- http://www.3si.org/forum/f4/14-b-turbos-416213/

Freshly rebuilt 14b's I think he want $450 for both of them. Make sure that there is no modification done to them to fit on the the 3000GT, I Don't think there is but just double check.

Don't know how to say this, but 3Si is putting me through a song and dance routine, and yet I remain unable to access anything. Even edited my hello post to reflect my inability to get anywhere and request assistance.

In short -- thanks, but I appear to be stuck!

Maybe it's just the 15 minute stay in purgatory that has me ensnared!

EDIT: Whew -- yes, appears to have been the fifteen minute clause that had me stuck :(! I've left a post in his thread -- thanks!
