The only problem with that is that it is fine during coasting, it happens only when i am accelerating and have it at a steady rpm.
ok first that statement did not make sense how can you be at a steady rpm and be accelerating? its one or the other. second if it is happening when at a above idle that is when your steering pump has a power draw on it even though your alternator is running its pushing other things harder and faster so the electricity running into your electric driven steering fluid pump is trying to push while it has a slight lack of power, if it has a clog, or is low on steering fluid, the pump will tend to surge.
now as far as only during one direction of turning that i would refer to what bobthecow suggested, maybe due to upgrading to a clutch kit when you went to the drag strip you could have possibly twisted or bent a drive axle. did you ever do a above 3,000 rpm launch from dead stop? with a clutch kit without performance or performance equivalent drive axles it can cause damage.
there isn't a huge cost in doing a steering pump flush just new steering fluid. and checking your hoses for cracks or plugs is free if you do it. now as far as checking for drive shaft twist or bend take off your front tires and twist the drive shafts anything big enough to feel during driving will be big enough to see from turning the shafts by hand.
