Hey, I have a 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT 5spd, and have recently put a clutch kit in and HAVE BROKEN IT IN, I continued to drive it and last week went up to the dragstrip(sucked b/c i had to run 1/8's b/c of the weather). It was fine the next day and i continued to drive it. Well about 4-5 days later, I went on a lunch break and turned out of the parking space and it was fine but when i turned left to go out to the highway it pulsated in the steering. There was NO unusual noise, the rpms were at 2500 and STEADY,but it was randomly lurching, NOT HARD just like small jerk. Well, halfway through the turn i let the steering wheel go, like normal, to let the car straighten out. It was turning normally and all of a sudden the steering wheel snapped back straight very quickly. It didn't pulsate going straight, only when i turn. Another thing is it is more to the left than right. I can't figure it out and have taken it everywhere, even the dealership and no one can tell what is wrong with it. PLEASE HELP, ANY COMMENTS WILL BE USEFUL.

you possibly got something floating in your steering fluid causing a clog i would flush your steering fluid pump and hoses to see if anything is plugging up your pump. also i would go through your entire steering suspension and lube it by all the grease points. this may solve your problem if not your looking at needing a new power steering pump later in your future. if that is the case. http://www.car-part.com for a used one for a cheap price. make sure if you do buy one it holds a A grading and ask the yard guy if it has been tested. happy hunting

The only problem with that is that it is fine during coasting, it happens only when i am accelerating and have it at a steady rpm.

Maybe you have a problem with one of your drive axels.

ok first that statement did not make sense how can you be at a steady rpm and be accelerating? its one or the other. second if it is happening when at a above idle that is when your steering pump has a power draw on it even though your alternator is running its pushing other things harder and faster so the electricity running into your electric driven steering fluid pump is trying to push while it has a slight lack of power, if it has a clog, or is low on steering fluid, the pump will tend to surge.

now as far as only during one direction of turning that i would refer to what bobthecow suggested, maybe due to upgrading to a clutch kit when you went to the drag strip you could have possibly twisted or bent a drive axle. did you ever do a above 3,000 rpm launch from dead stop? with a clutch kit without performance or performance equivalent drive axles it can cause damage.

there isn't a huge cost in doing a steering pump flush just new steering fluid. and checking your hoses for cracks or plugs is free if you do it. now as far as checking for drive shaft twist or bend take off your front tires and twist the drive shafts anything big enough to feel during driving will be big enough to see from turning the shafts by hand.
