Hi my name is justin,
and well i would love to hear all of your opinions on the evolution of the eclipse, now im not as well versed in the history as most of you, i mean hell i bought a 97 RS as my first car, and then in07 i bought a gs as my second car instead of saving and getting a gsx. so trust me ill be the last person to contest any opinions here. think about this.....when was the first time you knew you wanted an eclipse? did you see it speeding pass you? what did it sound like? there are many reason why we like this car. and that is why this car has such a nice huge following. we love the fact that just by looking at it someone will think i wonder what he has in there because honestly if you take off the gs rs gst gsx badge and invest in aftermarket parts you are sure to have someone ask you what it is. just recently when i was stationed in nc, i pulled up to the track just to see what i was running stock ( 16.7 ) and to my surprise were 2 99 gsx's that looked exactly like min same paint and everything, and when i parked they all came over and asked what i was boosting at, and like a noob i said what do you mean? they all laughed and showed me in their cars. so basically what im saying right now is every eclipse is unique in its own way and i dont see that with other cars, if i see a honda they all look alike and sound alike, a mustang .... same thing. so here we go, what was the pros and cons of all the generations???? im going to be making a website soon and alot of your answers will be on there so please respond as much as you like. really get into what was good about all the generations of eclipses and what was bad or in your opinion should have been different. thanks.

my pros and cons. nothing other than oppinion
1g pros
weight
BOV(gst/gsx)
intake manifold
cons
looks
less HP then their 2g counterparts
2g pros
LOOKS (by far the best looks)
increased HP from 1g
2g cons
weight (a 400lb increase from 1g)
smaller intake manifold
crappy BOV on turbo's

and no to the 3 and 4 G which i don't know a whole lot about
3g pro's
looks aren't bad
V6
3G cons
heavier
no turbo models
4g pros
better looking then 3g
sound system is awesome
most futuristic of the eclipses (newest)
fastest stock eclipse (an underrated 263HP)
cons
heavier even yet
again, no turbo model
price

these are all my oppinions based on what i know, so don't get your panties in a bunch if i missed an HP rating by 1.4HP

Mike hit it on the head with the pros and cons of the first gen vs second gen.

But off topic,

When you say a honda is a honda and a mustang is a mustang. Thats not totally true.

I have some friends that can tell you what motor is in that honda EG just by the sound of it. Which is impressive because Honda has 80 million different motors.

Its all about attention to detail. I can hear the difference between a 3000GT VR4 and a Non turbo. Even if I don't hear the turbos spooling. The exhaust is different.

Screw you guys.

The 1gb talon is teh sex. I've just always loved them.
I guess I'm more of a talon person as far as appearance, 1gb Talon > 2gb Talon > 2gb Eclipse > all other Talons/Eclipse > Laser.

When listing the cons of the 2g, don't forget to mention the T25 ;)

Only difference in the Talon and Eclipse is just the taillights and the bumpers. I had a talon and a eclipse! i love my eclipse but I wish I had my talon back...

First time I wanted a Eclipse was in 1995!! My mom got a GS Brand New off the lot! I was a little kid so for me it was FAST!! Then she was hit and bought a 99 and I loved the way it looked...but she traded it for a 2000 GTS! 30 somethin grand off the showroom floor fully loaded. I didnt like it as much as the 99 but it was ok...My opinion the 2gen. are the best, then the 4gen then the 3gen. I really dont like alot of the 1gen. eclipse...but they can look good! My friend had a 1gen. Talon AWD and it was modded out the ****! He could pop the clutch and smoke all 4 tires in second!! He put 100 dollars on the dash and said I could have it if I could reach it...I failed

OMG really?!?!?!?! Maybe that's why when I was saying about why I liked it more I mentioned how I loved the look of them! But thank you for clarifying, I was so lost in the dark before you mentioned that.

Bunch O Clowns I say!!

I love the 2g body style.. There is just something to say about those smooth lines and that cockpit feel you have when you sit in it. That is why I think any 2g that can be saved should be! 420 or 4g it don't matter. Drive Em' Like You stole Em' Boyz!

Interior on the 2g is very similar to the Surpas... but a little more cluttered.

I remember the first time i KNEW i was going to get an eclipse. I was shopping for honda's and i saw a gst and looked @ it and drove it. The car had a custom beamer blue paint job, 2 in off the ground, evo iii 16g, custom interior, just ALL decked out. I drove that bamf and i KNEW i was going to get an eclipse or talon.
