Perhaps I should state the reason for my post. I have 1996 Eclispe with a mnual transmission. Recently I began having problems placing the car in gear. The shift feels like it's in gear but when I press the gas I get no power. The car starts with the clutch engaged but, when I take my foot off the clutch the car doesn't stall. It keeps running. Before this my car would stall when the clutch was disengaged.

I guess my first question is this. Can I fix this myself. Do you think I 'm having the problem as a result of a lack of fluids. Or, do you think there is a problem with the clutch itself. Does it need to be replaced?

Please help.

Does it happen when its cold out more often? Does the clutch peddle feel better and go into gear easy when you pump the clutch a little bit?

I will check my clutch fluid and lines if I can. No apparently the clutch pedal feels right and I can place the stick into first but the car acts like it's in neutral because when I take my foot completely off the clutch pedal it still runs.

k, was just curious cause the clutch master cylinder is prone to going out a lot on eclipses I found out. I have this problem with my car. I notice it a lot when its cold out. Its tough to put the shifter in gear and when I have my clutch all the way in it still moves forward. Mine is a hydralic problem where the master cylinder can hold pressure thus shifting becomes tough. To verify that you master cylinder is good pump the clutch a lot them try to shift and what not. Bleeding the master cylinder might be another solution to verfiy that you clutch hydralics are good. See if that works!
