Okay i have been back and forth, back and forth, and im so conflicted right now. I wanted to just go for it and Turbo out my engine with the Hahn Turbo, but at the same time i didnt know if my engine could handle this, so i called and asked my father what i should do. He stopped me half way through my first sentence and asked me a question, " Have you thought about getting a stroker kit for it? " I was like ive heard of it but i didnt know if it would give me that horsepower that i want. He said i should research it and then rethink what i just said. Wow was he right. I called Mr. Bob Kosh in Florida and he threw me through a loop. For $1600.00 I could N/A my engine HP up to the 180HP, with a nice cam, header, and exhaust package i could be pushing 200HP N/A. And i would get an increase in torque and 30 to 40 increase....awesome for the launch and acceleration. Compression will be higher for a non-turbo setup and it will be about the same for the turbo setup. So i think anyone who is seriously thinking of making their 420A a beast should look into this option. Im pretty sure alot of you have heard of the package but i know there are some noobies out there like me that have been waiting for something like this to show-up. Message me if you want the email to this place.

Moderators please Pin this because i know alot of 420A people will need to see this.

Nooooooo, your missing my point, im going for boost too, but the comparison of boosting my 420A with 140 HP n/a and boosting at with 200 HP n/a is HUGE. way more potential for more more horsepower.

More displacement equals more power.

Theres no replacement for displacement.

Pretty common knowledge there. Don't know why the stroker kit wasn't mentioned before though.

HAHAHAHA!!! Love the sig bro!!

be careful with your stroker kit and the compression you run even with the stroker. this might be why it isn't a more popular option.

the 420a is more limited in peak horsepower making capabilities than the 4g63 is. the biggest reason is the deck. it is more open compared to the 4g63 making it weaker. the 4g63 can take a ton of boost and make a ton of power because the top of the cylinders are supported by the block deck. the 420a is only supported at 4 spots. it has some open sections that tend to crack when you overboost.

the 420a does have a better lower design because of the bedplate but dodge shot itself in the foot when they left the deck slightly open

i'm not saying it wouldnt be better than a stock bottom end because you will get a more torquey response with the stroker but you might also break more drivetrain parts

Nope to me its worth it...i just heard you had to mess with the block to get the stroker kit to work. My turbo kits going to be put on pro...im not cheap I want it done right so its going to be a small penny :P

If you're thinking of a stroker kit, its worthwhile to check out howell automotive. They offer a 2.2L stroker 420a crate engine for less than three grand. Its built to order, and is built using high quality internals etc. Multiple options on compression are offered, and they claim that the engine is capable of withstanding up to 800 horsepower. I'm probably going to invest in one once I have the money. Might be a good alternative for people looking to go stroker that don't want the hassle or don't have the expertise to make their own stroker.

I don't think a 420a is worth all of that time and money, I got a Hahn kit for $1600 and I will be boosted for a DD but thats it.

What if the deck was filled in? Sleeving I think is what it's called.

Doesn't that cost displacement though.

Shouldn't if the deck is just filled. Make a mold of the space and cast something to fill it.

Yeah but isn't sleeving the cylinder walls just a sleeve that takes up space therefore taking away from the total displacement?

sleeving is what the honda guys do because their decks are completely open. They bore the crap out of the cylinders almost til they are nonexistent and the put new ones in. sleeving process

As far as I know there is't any method to sleeve a 420a because:

1. no one makes aftermarket cylinders to drop in
2. the blocks are cast iron not aluminum (don't know for sure if there are cast sleeving methods)
3 the deck isnt 100% open

420a
that vid is a good example of the 420a block. You can ignore the actual vid I just put that there so you could get a good look at the deck.

Filling the block would be an option if you were to run straight alcohol and remove the cooling system. Fillin the block closes all of the coolant passageways, but it is great for a drag race motor
