those 3800's are mean beasts. i had a 3400 in a oldsmobile alero i tossed in a intake and a partial exhaust. i also descreened my MAS and even against a 03 gt with 5 speed i killed him. by the time he reached passed 105 where my governor was set at, well i was so far ahead of him. he wouldn't have come close to catching me in a quarter mile. well we were on a two lane entrance to the freeway so being a jerkoff he blew by me at 120 while i was stuck going 104, but in a drag race it aint going to happen bro sorry. i almost got stabbed once over beating a 04 eclipse GT in Ogden Utah i guess the wanna be gangsters out there don't like old man cars tearing their doors off for some reason.
now in a good looks contest your car is going to win. but pitting a 3.0 verse that 3.8 with similar HP but different torque that 3.8 will take you man. its a sad fact that the GT 's are more show than go. don't get me wrong i love the GT Eclipse, but maybe due to different transmission gears those GM 's cars keep taking the GT 's!!! would you even wonder about a grand prix GTP if it would win or not? i don't think they even make the grand am's in a 4 cylinder anymore its V6 or V6 supercharged. maybe i'm wrong i don't keep up on them anymore because i now drive a Eclipse.

dude you need to check your information before you post........1997-2003 the GT was a 2 door and the SE was a 4 door. GTP was a option of motor for either of the sedan or coupe models. of course going with the GT body and accessories the cost was already considerably higher also the grand prix was not much of a sports car in the eyes of the common family purchasing these cars. seeing as the same engine was put in the Monte Carlo as you said. more people went for the Monte Carlo and they also had the option of the SS version as well for a muscle car rather than for the grand prix GT model with the GTP motor. the now G6 gt and the G8 are considered the new versions of the grand am grand prix and the G6 comes with a supercharge option. below are two examples of the 2 door GTP http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt...:en-US:officialhttp://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt...:en-US:officiali hope this will clarify any and all questions about the GTP 2 door all you had to do was type in the google search engine (2 door pontiac grand prix gtp for sale) there is tons for sale right now they are all listed on the internetautoguide.com prices ranging from 6,000 to 11,000 all are 2001's one is red 3 gray four are black and one is white.

the truth is the auto tranny in the GT is the equivalent of a diamond up to like 350-375 HP. it will take a pounding without missing a beat as long as you take care of it. when its time to service your tranny get it serviced, or do your own fluid change, don't forget to change the little transmission gear oil filter as a lot of people are not even aware a filter for transmission fluid even exists. oh and don't fall for a tranny flush ever, even if the owners manual calls for it. when does your manual call for a engine flush? never.
if your tranny gets to a point where it starts acting up get a high powered magnet and slide it over the tranny case until you come to a stop at your drain plug. once you have done that drain it and then use a magnetic screw driver or a telescoping magnet to pull out the major metallic particles, if there is a lot i suggest getting a tested used tranny to replace your about to be bad one. it may take another year before it goes out it may take a month, but getting it rebuilt is expensive. if you can't find a used one in or around your area. then fine get it rebuilt, but if you take care of your tranny like you do your engine it is designed to last as long as the life of your car.
flushing your tranny will only make holes in seals and cause worse problems making the fluid run quicker in the etched spots on the gears now in turn causing the fluid to miss the outer parts of the gears that it needed lubrication for. everyone knows that wear is imminent flushing just makes more room for gears to slap each other causing more damage and then making bigger space between gears just causing more damage due to lack of lubrication needed because the spaces allow the fluid or gear oil to run more quickly through the spaces. on a completely oil bath type thats just fine, but auto tranny's are not oil bath gears they are splash type gears with bottom dip gearing. due to heating issues as everyone knows.

QUOTE(EMC 3000gt @ Apr 21 2008, 02:01 AM) Yeah don't rev it in neutral and slam it in to D. Dont try and burn out. my buddy did that to get his 95 hundai elantra to "burn out" man, wow. and there's not much advise you can give a v6 auto driver. kinda just push the pedal down.

I just cliff noted it.
Seriously though, if you brake boost, or rev in d with your foot on the brakes, and then launch your just putting stress on your car. Six years is a long time, If you need your car to last that long I don't suggest beating on it.
Keep your foot in it, don't lift off, don't try and manually shift the gears, it will last.
