I have a 2002 Mitsubishi Diamante. About 3 weeks ago, the mechanic told me I had 3 bad catalytic converters. They researched it for me and found that they are covered by the manufacturer until 90K miles. So, it was towed to the dealer, who then said, no, it's the transmission. So, extended warranty company replaced the transmission. Then, the dealer said, okay we have to replace 2 catalytic converters. They finally did that today and then called me and said I had a bad muffler and center pipe. Well, I took it back to the exhaust place b/c they worked on all of that 2 months ago. They call me and say the problem is the 3rd catalytic converter. I call the dealer and they say there are only 2 catalytic converters and that is the resonator (sp?), which is what he called the center pipe earlier. Well, this was all going on at closing time, so I toldthem to lock my car up and I will figure it out tomorrow. Keep in mind that I have no clue what I'm talking about. I just know that I have 2 mechanics telling me I have a 3rd catalytic converter and the dealer telling me I don't. Does anyone know what is going on here or what I should do about it? I would like to have some clue about what I'm talking about tomorrow.
