I just got my '09 Lancer GTS a short time ago and I love it. I drove the '08 and '09 GTS models back-to-back and I think the 2.4L '09 is worth waiting/paying a little more for. It's a great car so far. I concur with SimmoES's responses. The trunk space is a little on the smallish size, made moreso if you have the Sun & Sound package because of the sub in the trunk. I'd say a guitar case or two would fit though. The GTS has very little body roll, due to the tight suspension and very low profile tires. I don't find wind noise to be intrusive at all. Even at 70 MPH on the highway, it's considerably quieter than my 2000 Jeep Cherokee was. Lastly, the spoiler does get in the way a little for rearward vision, but you can still see behind you.

Get it, you'll like it! :)

well my hubs is in the navy and he still bugs me about getting my gts. (figureing he spent some of his re-enlistment bonus as a down payment)he REALLY REALLY wanted the evo but its my car so all i wanted is looks and reliablity. and yes it has the looks always getting head turns. we actually had to drive out of state to see another blue gts

But my hubs is satisfied with everything we have had no problems yet except for the windows being tint and the mole skin.. but IMO its a really good car

still trying to find a '09 gts stick to drive, but i'm hopeful. Thanks for all the info guys. So far it seems that the only problem I may need to be watchful for is the trunk, and I really don't think that is going to be an issue. All in all I think I made the right choice for myself going with the new Lancer. Keep coming with any suggestions or info I may have missed. Thanks again. :gunsmilie:

the trunk can fit guitars, because the single back seat can fold down to make more room for you to put things in there.

i got use to the spoiler blocking my view and at night it actually applies as a light blocker for the car behind me (you can tell the car is there but blocks alot of the light so you arent blinded as much).

suspension is nice, i havent been in a car where i took turns like that and felt comfortable

First off welcome to the board! Hope to see you on here when you get the car!
Theres plenty of space in this car to carry around large items, the seats fold down and the truck is ok sizewise.
I personally don't hear a lot of wind noise, but at higher speeds there is some. Depending on what trim you get, the suspension will vary, but I have the ES and I don't get any body roll. Unless I'm cornering like a mad-woman!

As someone who is doing the exact same thing today, I have a few of my own questions: Buying a manual GTS. I know torque will be low, but is it really really bad? I'm coming from a FWD V8 (Monte SS), and how different will the economy be? The GTS is the best sporty 4-banger I could find for 21k loaded. So essentially how is the MPG and the torque? How is the handling through corners?

Torque isn't that low considering the size of the car. Remember, this engine isn't trying to move 3500+ lbs. down the road like a lot of cars. With the MT in the '09 GTS, the gearing seems on the low side so acceleration is more than adequate, even from the lower RPM ranges. The fuel economy will be considerably better than a V8, I'm getting 25-28 in town and 32+ MPG on the highway. Handling through corners is superb, the sport-tuned suspension and P215/45/18 tires see to that! :)

Exactly what I wanted to hear my man :) My baby's gonna be Octane Blue, or Black, hopefully. On the other hand, how much DO these cars weigh? I know they're pretty light due to a lack of sound deadening and light materials (See: Aluminum), but are they less than 3300? My wallet is taking a hit on this trade, but at 70$ to fill up and only have it last 240 miles, I can't keep it up. :P Did the math, and I'd average..3360$ a year on gas, filling up twice a week every month. And I'm sorry, but that's a bit insane.

Ok Well I'm obviosly new here. I dont really have a mitsubishi yet but I'm thinking about buying a new car and I'm considering the 09 lancer gts and there's no one better to talk to the mitsubishi owners right. I'm looking for something with a little more power/speed than my current car. I'd be willing to get a used car and I'd consider an older model, somthing that looks similar to the 09 gts. I've also conisdered a used Saturn Ion redline or Mazda 3. Does anybody have times for a stock gts? I need something thats going to travel well that will need little work and doesn't burn oil lol. If I can close to 30 mpg that would be fine. I currently get 32-34 highway but will give that up for more power. I currently have a 99 saturn sl2 and the only mods are injin cai, bored out stock throttle body and cheapo muffler. I also have a obx header thats not installed yet. 0-60 in 8-9 seconds 0-100 in god knows how long but it gets there. A good aftermarket would be good too. Any thoughts? opinions? links to pictures?

I have a 2009 ES with the sport package in the Octane Blue color and I love it. If I were you though I would go with the GTS simply because of the 2.4L engine. I went from a 2.4L Scion tC and it really feels like I am creeping when I leave a light in the ES. I have put an Injen CAI on and the GReddy exhaust and I really couldn't tell much of a difference. Overall though the car is great, you will enjoy it!

Yeah, I'll def. go with the GTS. I'm going here in a few hours. If the dealership doesn't have the car I want, I'm going to build it online and have it delivered. I always go with top of the line, or near top of the line, to preserve resale value.

Mitsubishi is not exactely known for the best re-sale value. Probably due to their shady history.

Have you looked at the weight on the car?! Its over 3500 around 4 something if I remember correctly
Anyway gas mileage is going to be way lower, but you sacrifice power. It was a big change from my V6 going to the 4 banger.... They are quick cars, but the 4 takes some getting used to. Theres going to be plenty of parts out for them, so you can boost the HP.

Welcome!

The 2008 and 2009 Lancers are the only ones that come in the body style you see now, so you may want to take that into mind before thinking about an "older" Lancer. As far as MPG goes, I'm unhappy to say it, but you might not be too satisfied with this car. The 2008 gets 23 MPG city and 28 or 29 highway... other users have been reporting higher MPG figures than these, but I have yet to achieve them (18 MPG city and about 23-26 highway). A stock GTS will do 0-60 mph in 7.7 seconds and the quarter mile in 16 seconds at 88.4 mph. Personally, I think the car really shines when it comes to handling. My car sticks to the pavement like glue in turns and I love it.

There are plenty of aftermarket mods out now and several more on the way. Injen is the only company that makes a CAI at the moment and K&N are going to be releasing a SRI soon. Many people with Fujita SRI's have issues with running lean and getting the SES light so you may wish to think twice about them.

Plenty of topics to read here and even more people willing to help and answer your questions... just as long as they haven't been asked before

Actually I believe the weight of the CVT GTS is about 3200 (and that is the heaviest of all the models)
