QUOTE(shadz78 @ Jun 2 2008, 12:14 PM)
did you just drive the civic, or did you drive the Si as well, because the difference between the base model civics and the Si model are like night and day.  The two I decided against was the Lancer and the Civic Si.

It was the standard Civic. They didn't have an Si, and it was more expensive than the Mazda 3 GT (which also had 0% financing, another reason I thing I should have gone with the 3)

My order of recommendation based on test drives

-Lancer GTS (Looks great, Fun to drive, Interior OK)
-Mazda 3 GT (Looks ok, fun to drive, Interior great)
-Toyota Corolla XRS (OK overall, but no spark)
-Toyota Matrix XRS (heavier than the corolla, handles worse, ok otherwise)
-Honda Civic (spaceship interior, bland/ugly exterior, underpowered)
-Toyota Corolla CE (underpowered, nothing specialm ok otherwise)
-Subaru Impreza 2.5i Sports Package (feels heavy/sluggish, too much body roll, overpriced compared to the rest of the category)

About the original trunk comment problems.....

I have an 08 Lancer ES and haven't had any problems with my trunk, until last Tuesday when I got rear ended by a concrete truck. Now it won't close and there is literally nothing to hook bungee cords to. I was afraid of a lake appearing in my trunk so I had the body shop take it into it's garage.
Also, on the paint comment, I've never had any issues and I work on various construction sites and I haven't seen one chip, mark or scratch. Could be because I drive the silver one tho, hard to see on silver. But so far about 1 year of various construction sites and 30k miles, no scratches, nicks, scuffs, or chips!! =)

I love my 2.4 L GTS m/t. The advanced options make you feel like you are driving in a much more expensive vehicle. FAST key, rain sensing wipers, HID's, Nav, 30gb music server, 6month free sirius radio, plays dvds, a/v inputs, racing suspension. I love this car and wish I could drive it forever. Let me tell you the cons:

The seating isn't the nicest out there - actually quite cheap.

The gas consumption is so-so. 23 mpg in mixed driving.

This might be dealer specific but mine didn't come w/floor mats I went back to the dealership and they ordered them for me. I was happy that they got me all weather floor mats but the all weathers only come with the two front, so I had to buy some rubber mats from wal mart for 5 dollars each and they don't exactly fit perfectly. On the mitsu website the 4 pc carpeted floor mats cost more than the 2 pc all weather, would've rather just had the carpeted mats and then upgraded to all weather in a few years just replacing the front ones.

New to this forum, I got my 09 Lancer GTS sun and sports package in july. I traded my 2000 Montero Sport and a 1000$ down and i came out owing 17000 with tax and title and all that happy stuff. Chicago taxes suck!

Hey guys, how's it goin? I'm a US Soldier stationed in Germany and I'm thinking about getting an '09 Lancer. Two questions;

1. Does the Speedometer show KPH as well as MPH?
2. What exactly is a Rear Diffuser? When I was looking at Mitsubishi site the description sounded like it was something cosmetic. Also whenever I think about it I am reminded of Star Fox 64. I did search the site and it did little more than confirm my first impression.

Hello ezxhaton and welcome to the forums. Here are your answers:

1. Yes, the speedo does show both KPH and MPH (North American models) but I am pretty sure that it is true with all models around the world.

2. A Rear Diffuser is a cosmetic modification that is supposed to reduce drag in the rear of the vehicle. It resembles 'fins' protruding out of the bottom of the rear fender and is supposed to manage the air that is passed through the underside of the vehicle. Here is an image:

http://www.sport-cars.org/site_img/large/2...olution-X-1.jpg

As far as I know, the Rear Diffuser is only applied onto the Evolution models, although you can go aftermarket and apply a diffuser to any of the other lesser Lancers.

Hope that helped.

Regards.

Hello everyone, I'll be picking up my Lancer GTS later this week but I'm really freaked out by the paint chipping stories. Is there anything I should do or have done to the car that will stave off the paint chipping problems? Should I get the paint insurance that the dealership offers?

From what i am hearing, you either have to get it shipped from the states or shipped from asia.. Those options would either be through the companies website (i.e. RRM) or through eBay or another online auction site.. If you have a garage that you go to, see if they can order it in for you at a fair price, i've asked around the garages around where I live and alot of them can do that, although the price is slightly more that what I would pay for it online.. All up to you, but I don't think there are any good places up in Canada for parts for our cars yet.. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

My number 1 concern right now is rattling. Is it really that bad and does everyone experience it? The simple fact is I shouldnt have to spend money on dynamat for a new car.
