Just recently i have a whirring sound coming from the right hand side front of the engine bay. It sounds like a siren in the distance. After about 10 mins of idle it disapears.
Any ideas what this could be? Sorry there isnt much info.

Its a tt right hand drive. 94 model.

Thanks

Does it alter when yo rev the motor?

Right side looking it from the front? So the timing belt side?

When i rev the motor i cant hear it, i think this is just because it drains the noise out. Yes it is the timing belt side.

Pop the hood and manually rev the motor from the TB can you still hear the noise?

Tried that, manually revving the engine from under the hood and the noise disappears, but like before it is only a faint sound so the engine could be overpowering the noise. Its just that it sounds out of sorts. And it didnt used to be there. The timing belts etc have all been changed in the last six months.

After 10 mins of idling it goes away.

Thanks for your replies emc

I doubt its the turbo but you could check for shaft play.

But without actually being there and listening I can't really diagnosis this.

Shaft play - pull intake spin compressor wheels. they should spin freely and not move up down side to side or in and out. Be gentle.
