Hello Everyone, Well i have been presented with an opportunity that i am having trouble with. My uncle (who is a mechanic) picked up a 91 3000gt SL off of a friend of his for really cheap. The car itself has 160,000 miles on it but the previous owner blew the VR4 motor that was previously in the car. It now has a 34,000 mile VR4 motor without the turbos. I was told it was ready to receive turbos and the only change i would have to make is new manifolds. I do not plan on getting turbos any time soon if ever, but i was not sure if all that was even possible, (not super engine savvy). My uncle got a hold of it and ordered and installed new hood, exhaust, both side skirts, and a bumper. He installed a new moon roof, and is going to give the car a new paint job (RED). The car also has a rebuilt transmission and new leather seats. It is an automatic. The price is 4000 dollars. My current vehicle has 130,000 miles on it and is worth about 4000. I was seriously thinking of selling mine and buying the 3000gt. What do you guys think about the car? Good deal? Does that engine information make sense or even possible? Thanks in advance for any replies.
If you guys have any more questions or i did not give some necessary information please let me know i will do my best to answer.

Hmm, well this depends on what car you own now, although the 130k mileage kinda cries for another car with less, in some cases. Judging by the work done to the 3KGT, it's probably well worth 4k, if everything else in the car is tip-top other than the new engine. Have your uncle check other things under the hood to see if they are in good condition, and from there on, it's just your own judgment on the body and interior condition.

I currently drive a 1999 Nissan Altima that has 131,000 miles on it. I bought it with 40,000 and since have had to replace both inner and outer tie rods, CV joints and boots, the window motor, clutch, alternator, and the distributor. The alternator and distributor had to come from a Nissan dealership as i took it to a local mechanic first and the NON Nissan alternator and distributor they put in both did not work they replaced it with a new one still did not work properly and finally i took it to a Nissan dealership and viola, i guess she don't like the auto parts store crap (Lesson Learned). So basically i have spent about twice what shes worth just to keep her running in the past year. She runs great now but i think it may be time to get something else and this opportunity seemed pretty good to do just that. Plus i have always loved the 3000gts. I was denied insurance on a VR4 when i was 15 as my first vehicle =( My uncle said "the car runs great and pending the paint job will look immaculate". My Altima is a 5 speed and i am really going to miss that, that was the only downside to this car, but for the price and work done i do not think i will be able to get into anything close for that much money.
From the way i understand it the guy had different turbos that he wanted to put on. The whole thing did not make much sense to me either thats why i got on here to ask you guys. I was told to get it back to turbo it would cost about 3000 because it would need new manifolds. Really thats the reason i would not do it thats just too much, that and from the other posts i have read i am not sure i am ready for the upkeep involved with the turbos, though they would be a blast =)
Thanks again guys i really appreciate your replys.
