So you still don't understand what I was trying to say do you?

This time I don't care if I hurt your feelings or piss you off.

Fram oil filters suck. No one under any circumstance should ever risk putting those cardboard piece of *** sorry excuse for a paper weight any where near their car.

The actual filter has a tendency (and I mean a really good tendency) to break down to mush. When this happens the filter is not filtering anymore.

Spend an extra $3 for any other kind of oil filter.

I have to say though...

Fram is better than STP.
K&N is the best
Mobil 1 2nd
Fram 3rd

AMSOIL is the best oil.

Mitsubishi OEM oil filter OR Wix oil filters are the better/best than all other filters you can buy from regular auto shops like Auto Zone...DO NOT USE FRAM!

Last note, there is no reason to change your oil every 3k miles, its a waste.

Edit: There is no reason to use synthetic oil, many car's will last 200k+ miles on dino oil with little engine wear. Change it every 5-7k miles, no need for every 3k.

Very true. But people just switch straight to them most of the time thinking it will automatically give them more mileage in between oil changes. But that's not the case as we all know.

synthetics are also known to offer 1-2 HP more on repeated dyno tests. they start to flow quicker than conventional oil. i will put money on it that if you took 2 cars exact same engine and drove them for 200,000 miles with normal oil change intervals on the conventional oil engine, and triple the interval with synthetic oil and a high performance oil filter. the synthetic oil engine will look cleaner, quieter, more efficient, and run smoother at the end of the test.

have you ever heard of Irv Gordon and his 1966 Volvo P1800? he has driven it 2.6 million miles. as soon as the oil companies came out with synthetic oil he switched to it and has never gone back. 2.6 million miles man, 2.6 million.

I know that with full synthetic you can go to 4 or even 5 thousand miles before you change, but think thats still putting our car through more strain, thats a long time to keep the same oil in there..I use full Syn. and i still change mine on every 3000 mile mark.. Just safe

Hi,

I have a 2000 Eclipse GT, i am about to get an oil change, can someone guide which one to use, synthetic or normal oil and how much difference does it make in performance.

Thanks,
Gaurav

its kind off a risk. if you mis-align the belt you could ruin the whole engine. my dad worked for mitsubishi and some guy installed the timing belt just a little wrong and he messed up his whole engine. if u are experienced with cars try. i would check some other places because $400 sounds a little too high.
