I figured I would just toss this out there as an informative thing and then let people flame me until my skin melted.

I placed the order for my DSMLink yesterday and got the confirmation email. This morning I pulled my ECU to box it up and get ready to ship. I came in to work and read my email. i reread my order confirmation email and out of the corner of my eye noticed the statement, "before sending your ECU to us please verify that you have an EPROM ECU. We can not work with non-EPROM ECU's."

That's when I noticed the part number on the front of it. MD321911 with a little T on the bottom right. It's supposed to say either MD309947 or MD312464 and have a little E on the bottom right. Oh ***! it's a non-EPROM ECU, and i'm dumb for not checking before placing my order

So like ajackass I had to send an email back to Thomas at ECM Tuning to tell him im stupid and have to find an ECU before I can send it for the DSMLink to be installed.

But,, luckily he had one there and could sell me that one. So as a tribute to their customer service I received a tracking number for my new ECU with DSMLink 2 hours after I contacted them and explained my stupidity. Thanks Thomas! Sorry for being Dumb

I think the only 4 people who know anything about what you are talking about have responded to this thread. Flame suit not required.

Nice move.

That's actually a good price for an ECU, and I may need one. I was told the ECU in my car was an EPROM, and I plan on going with DSMLink, but I checked it and it is definitely not.
seller fail.

like bob said, yes and no and here's why

DSMLink is a product of ECM Tuning. DSMLink.com

basically, you place an order. they send you the total price and instructions on what to do which consist of:

1. paying in full, or paying before they ship it back to you
2. shippping your ECU to them (yes you have to pay for this but they pay to send it back)

Turn around time is dependent on shipping duration but they usually do the install the day they get it and send it back out within a few hours. I paid for mine yesterday and it's now sitting on my porch for me when I get home. But they are only 50-60 miles away from me so shipping was quick.

The YES part is that when you get your ECU with the new EPROM in it you also get a CD with their software and a cable with an adapter to plug it into the OBDII diagnostic port.
Step 1 - Install the ECU and plug it in.
Step 2 - Hook the cable to your laptop, the other end to the plug, and plug it in to the vehicle. Key should be off. (this step can also be last)
Step 3 - install the software (software can also be downloaded from their site)
Step 4 - run software
Step 5 - turn key to run position and you are now online with your car "plug and play"

the NO part of all this is that it isn't as simple as "Play." Messing with the settings can cause a few problems if you don't know what you are doing because you can control almost everything from pulling engine codes, timing and airflow to just turning on the radiator fans whenever you want. The problems fall along the line of KABOOM, non starting vehicle, flooded vehicle, KABOOM, poor performance, KABOOM (KABOOM being blown engine)

it's best to have someone do the tuning for you because most people don't know what an inverted CAS, MAF clamp, or a VE table are and if they are needed.

when you order they will also ask what you want your base settings to be. Even if you are modded I always like to use the factory settings for the base. That way if you do mess something up and can't figure it out you can revert back to OEM to start over.

Screen shots will show you the basic premise of the DSMLink

I would, but I didn't really pay anything for the car, got it for my old fwd Talon and the guy gave me $300, so I can't really complain too much.

no, just $170 for the replacement ECU.

Since this topic has turned to DSMLink I found a major problem. The car always ran like *** and I think I finally found out why (other than the knock off evoIII)

When I accelerate the check engine light will come on and then go off when I take my foot off the gas. I think tomyself, its knocking so it REALLY needs some tuning. So I get online with my ECU and try to reproduce it just to make sure i'm right with the DSMlink graphs and holy hell is it knocking.

BUT>>> after I threw a TON of fuel at it (enough to make it run richer than donald trump) it still recorded a bunch of knock and pulled timing back. (don't forget this is under 30% throttle or less)

The only conclusions I can come up with is:
1. the knock sensor is bad (the dsmlink actually says this)
2. the cams are causing too much noise in the top end causing too much phantom knock for the sensor to handle

I'm leaning towards number 1. What does everyone else think?

oh, and I have a wonderful vacuum leak to track down but I think it's at the throttle body elbow because there is a 1g 60mm elbow on a 2g throttle body. Any opinions here?

I found a sensor and a good fuel pump, picking them up tomorrow. But like an ***** I decided I would pull the old pump just to make sure it is stock and I do actually need to replace it. But since i'm dumb I pop off the two easy lines and then unscrew the hold down leaving it almost impossible to loosen the remaining fitting or put the rubber seal back in to lock the pump assy back down to help with loosening the fitting.

it's been WAY too long since I had to mess with a full trim car I feel like a kid in high school again........not always a good thing :P

it would be so much easier if it was a shell. should have bought the car that was just a frame. **** wife :offtopic:

I feel lost on a car without a cage :nahrung034:
