OK, there is a guy who is bringing up his carbon fiber hood so I can decide whether I want to buy it.It came off is car that got wrecked. His wife told him to get $200 for it.If it is glazed over and/or yellowed can it be repaired affordably? I hope it isnt,Is $200 reasonable if it is clear etc etc? I wouldnt of normally even thought of buying it but it sounds good, a little to good.Ill post tommorow and let you know how it goes!
Also, is there a way to tell which brand it is (for $ reasons) or if it is solid or just a skin?

SC Customs? Any info?

Well, I wonder why his "wife" told him how much he was supposed to get for it.

Anyways... most name brands will have the name stamped somewhere on the inside. My VIS Extreme GT has a serial number and everything. If it's yellowed and oxidized, don't buy it. It's a hassle to get done, it can be expensive, and if they mess it up then you just wasted your money (you have to have it wetsanded down and re-cleared).

If it's good (no cracks, no oxidation, and not a POS), then get it. If not, save up your cash and get a new one later.

He said it had one small scratch onone of the corners. Ill make sure that it isnt a crack but could a scratch be a major problem within 5 years? Also thanks for the info, I hope it has a brand name under it, If not could that lead to problem?Should all real carbon Fiber hoods have a S/N to verify authenticity?

All quality C/F hoods should have some sort of identification number on it. Cause if they don't then the company that made it doesn't want you to know who they are because they know they sold you a crappy product.

But if it's really a good product then it will have some sort of id on it.

And a scratch depending on the severity and depth of it could turn in to a major problem over a couple of years. But mainly even if it looks in perfect working condition you always wanna be careful buying a used C/F hood from someone.

I got the hood on Saturday! It is clear and good, there are a couple of surface scratches but I need to wax the whole car w/ Meguirs Gold Class that should take away the bulk of them. The hood is a VIS oem style solid carbon fiber(crazy light!) it has one chip at the back corner but it shows no signs of getting worse(In a low traffic area)Not bad for $200 really straight weave all the way across as well.S/N is there also. Thanks for the info ya'll,will post picks soon.

I'd use Meguiar's 3 step waxing system. Works wonders on my car. Only problem is it's more expensive cause you have to buy three separate bottles for the 3 separate steps. But it's worth the money if you ask me.

Ive already got mine and the stuff is spectacular...I got the whole gift pack with spot detailer, car wash, wax, interior dressing, and tire dressing for christmas last year. I hate hand waxxing, but I think it comes out looking better, and just washing the hood yestreday made a huge difference.I found that some people can't stand the look of carbon fiber, while others love it, go figure.

For me the fact of liking carbon fiber depends on the car that you are putting it on.

The 3g's look amazing but it still depends on the actual styling of the hood itself. A simple design on a carbon fiber hood looks amazing on the 3g, but you go all ricery on the scoops and the curves then it looks kinda nasty and bad.

But all it really boils down to is the fact if you like it or not. And if you like it then that's all that matters.

Its the oem style and Im still undecided wether I like it or not.

I mean, I like the fact its light as f---, and it looks unique, love the weave too
but I am undecided about the color matchup, If I decide to keep it on I may get the carbon fiber front lip/windsplitter to match.
I may just sell it ..................?

I put in on soon as I got it delivered(free!) and Ive been trying to get used to it
I get alot more looks to my car with it which in itself is a good and bad thing...

i agree the color match is off bro. i mean yeah carbon fiber is awesome, but it has a out of place look with your stock paint job. why not get a better paint job? keep it in the red tones, but maybe get a metallic paint, or paint with metal flakes in it. give it a higher shine look to it.

I'll probably end up selling it and if I could afford the paint job I'd go w/ a chameleon midnight blue, then again if I could afford the paint job Id use the money for nitrous or turbo. My paint has the factory mettalic in it but you're right, the color doesnt really match up.I will be selling it on craigs list for $250 and it only takes as long as itd take to loosen 4 bolts wait 15 seconds then put 4 bolts back in.5 minutes top to switch em out.

Dude I totally disagree on you selling it. I think the color of the carbon fiber is a nice contrast to the burgundy on your car. That's the whole thing about carbon fiber, there aren't too many colors that it do match perfectly. I'd keep it cause it does look really awesome and eventually the contrast in color will grow on you. I know I could get used to it, especially since our oem hoods weigh a ton and that thing is probably as light as a feather.

I'm trying to think if that would attract positive attention, or the kind of attention that would get my windows smashed in the mall parking lot and pulled over by bored cops.

Both.the reaction I get most often is cool hood, but last Friday I pulled into the movie store parking lot and some dudes where eyeing my car(as theres was parked next to mine,as I approached the door to the store they said a bunch of trash like "thats a **** car" "yea, that car sucks" they were driving a '96 Toyota Camry.Jealous? I think so, or their rich daddy bought them something nice that they werent driving.I dislike a hater more than a ricer.
