An old time DSMer drove my auto the other day after we changed out the plugs and was amazed at how quick it was... 0 to 60 in about 4.8s using OD to control shifting.

If you want to modify the GSX like whoa, go for it the auto. But if you want the fun and control of a driving a manual, then get the GS-T.

I have an auto gsx (modified). When I race I turn the OD off and put on my high boost. Crazy fun.

I had the option of buying a manual but it wasn't as fast. :)

That's just stupid having that much power in an auto, especially if nothing has been upgraded, it would just tear thru the gears and shread them down.....

And i was comparing a 210bhp 5speed vs a 210bhp auto.....

Stock for stock the turbo supra and the Mercedes C class to name two are faster in auto trim.

When it comes to drag racing modified cars with an auto will be faster stop arguing this with me. There is a reason why the manual gear boxes are disappearing in production cars. The reason being is that good auto boxes are becoming cheaper to make.

To rough on the truck. 54000 miles on the same truck towing a full construction trailer with a 16,000 LB machine on it. One transmission.

Do your self a favor and read my posts. A modified car, which means modified engine and trans in auto format vs a comparably modified manual car will run quicker and more consistent in a 1/4 mile race every single time.

And my stop arguing comment was directed at the whole world. People have to face the fact that the standard transmission is no longer the only way to go for a race car or sports car.

So your saying stock for stock and I'm saying if you plan on getting freaky with your mods.

How old was this truck?

Cuz last time i checked towing 5th wheels from Calgary upto Fort Macmurray wasn't overly exhausting (esepcially since 5th wheels weigh nothing), it's basically the worlds flattest drive with no curves or hills......

There is a reason that no one is buying domestic cars, poorly constructed vehicles with poorly built parts, that includes the transmission...

EMC is right.. u know those top fuel dragsters u see going upwards of 300 mph on tv? you guessed it... auto... reason being is cause u can tune them to shift the EXACT same spot every time... it is impossible for a human being to hit 6 ( or 5 even) gears perfectly every time.... now if u take it to the road course then a manual will prevail due to the control over the transmissiona nd engine you have. however when talking road courses with alot of sharp turns u also dont want any more than around 325-350hp. and even that is pushing it for a average driver.

2004 3500 dulley crew cab but then again my friend is anal so that is why his transmission is in one piece still.

now back to transmissions. Look at the new EVO X. Enough said.

You can't use dragsters auto transmissions as an example those things alone cost more than the majority of people's cars out there....

All being said, i'd still take a 5speed over an auto anyday.... For the most part they are cheaper, 100000times funner and you dont feel like an **** driving an automatic DSM

i'll stick with autos on the track and 5-spds on the street. you break less parts on the track with an auto because there is less shock on the ENTIRE drivetrain with an auto shift than a 5 spd shift. that's just simple physics inside the torque converters lock up clutches.

I've actually never felt like an **** driving an auto DSM because the 5pd guys are too busy figuring out how to launch, smoking their tires off the start or missing shifts because the syncros are junk and i'm pulling back down the return lane for the next pass  (professional racers excluded)

In an auto I don't have to worry about how "cool" my blow off valve will sound or if venting to atmosphere will mess with the fuel map because it only vents at the end of a hard pull if I take my foot off the gas pedal quickly. No worries about replacing the clutch that just glazed over or broke. No worries about breaking shifter cables. No worries about slack in the shifter cable bushings. No worries about the throw out bearing. No worries about the clutch fork. No worries about hydralic clutch line leaks/breaks. No worries about the clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder leaking. No worries about extending my slave cylinder rod. No worries about the neutral safety switch going bad/needing adjusted and not being able to start the car. No worries about resurfacing a flywheel. No worries about missing shifts. No "how to launch" learning curve. No worries about tracking down a transmission problem because if someone goes wrong I can just drop another one in and it's ready to go. I will never have to worry about needing one of these scatter shield for people who can't use a torque wrench

And biggest of all..... I can focus all of my attention on going straight. I don't have to worry about not getting traction and trying to steer with one hand while I try to work the clutch and shift knob. An auto will always go down the track straighter and the straighter you go the faster you get there

p.s. a stock auto can handle a little bit over 450 awd/hp. who can say that about their stock clutch? if you add that in standards are not cheaper. a $600 ACT clutch later and your total price goes up. I can find an AWD trans to replace mine on ebay for less than $300.

like i said for quarter mile there is no replacement for an auto. and the example i used with the dragster trannys was simply that an example... the point i was getting across is universal with all transmissions. automatic have set shift points and are inevitably faster shift times than ANY human can do in a manual. even if someone was able to shift as quickly as an auto tranny they would strip the gears. now for a road cours where control is the key I would mucch rather be in a manual.

One more time here the Supra and the C230 and 320 are quicker in Auto trim.

You can also put 109123509185 horse power into a 2.0l motor but how long will it last......

You can't just add 240bhp to an auto transmission wiht out doing any internal upgrades.... It'll just grind straight thru the gears overheat and bam, fried tranny

Man auto transmission is no fun. drag queen racing is how fast you can put down your foot and beat the other guy. Pretty much all racing series has auto transmission. In which what is real skills is needed.

Unlike the old days where skills is needed. In which it is only half of the game.

and besides what is the fun factor if you take an auto to the canyons. pretty low if you ask me, but compare that to an manual transmission now thats fun. your always in the power band.

You know, if you added a subject to your sentences it would actually make them coherent, but since your abilities in the English language are just terrible, i'm going to ignore basically anything you say until you direct your point at someone.
