QUOTE(Yahn @ May 14 2008, 11:28 AM) All being said, i'd still take a 5speed over an auto anyday.... For the most part they are cheaper, 100000times funner and you dont feel like an **** driving an automatic DSM i'll stick with autos on the track and 5-spds on the street. you break less parts on the track with an auto because there is less shock on the ENTIRE drivetrain with an auto shift than a 5 spd shift. that's just simple physics inside the torque converters lock up clutches. I've actually never felt like an **** driving an auto DSM because the 5pd guys are too busy figuring out how to launch, smoking their tires off the start or missing shifts because the syncros are junk and i'm pulling back down the return lane for the next pass  (professional racers excluded) In an auto I don't have to worry about how "cool" my blow off valve will sound or if venting to atmosphere will mess with the fuel map because it only vents at the end of a hard pull if I take my foot off the gas pedal quickly. No worries about replacing the clutch that just glazed over or broke. No worries about breaking shifter cables. No worries about slack in the shifter cable bushings. No worries about the throw out bearing. No worries about the clutch fork. No worries about hydralic clutch line leaks/breaks. No worries about the clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder leaking. No worries about extending my slave cylinder rod. No worries about the neutral safety switch going bad/needing adjusted and not being able to start the car. No worries about resurfacing a flywheel. No worries about missing shifts. No "how to launch" learning curve. No worries about tracking down a transmission problem because if someone goes wrong I can just drop another one in and it's ready to go. I will never have to worry about needing one of these scatter shield for people who can't use a torque wrenchAnd biggest of all..... I can focus all of my attention on going straight. I don't have to worry about not getting traction and trying to steer with one hand while I try to work the clutch and shift knob. An auto will always go down the track straighter and the straighter you go the faster you get there  p.s. a stock auto can handle a little bit over 450 awd/hp. who can say that about their stock clutch? if you add that in standards are not cheaper. a $600 ACT clutch later and your total price goes up. I can find an AWD trans to replace mine on ebay for less than $300.
