Hello! I'm buying a new gts 09 soon. How long should I drive like a grandma untill I can use the engine to its full extent/full power? First oil change or certain amount of miles? Thank you all in advance!

To be honest, most engines nowadays are broken in before they even leave the assembly line. If you really want to be on the safe side, the first 500 to 1000 miles should be your "grandma miles" and make sure that you keep it under 5000 RPM. After that, you can gradually give it more push... and then start red lining!

Manual states that you have to give it 300 miles for break in.

Just don't be beatin the pi$$ out of it. You will probably get different opinions out of alot of people. Everybody has a different way of doing things.

the owners manual said u should keep it below 140km/h (for 2.0l manual) and 4000rpm for 1000 km's. a guy at the dealer said u dont really have to run new engines in any more, but he wouldn't recommend going over 4000rpm for the first 1500km. i'm up to 600km and my foot's startin' to get itchy.............

You really should leave it to the 1000 miles before you really romp on it. Just remember the less you do it in the break-in period the longer your cars life will be in the long run!

I bought my 09 Saturday. Have put 1400km's on it since (i know, lot of driving, long story, most of that was highway: 120km/h cruise)

I've been pushing it higher and higher as I got it. kept it below 4000RPM before 600km, then 5000 before 1000km.

I've pushed it to 6000 a few times since, but not off the line, and not for long.

I've heard pushing it a bit during the breakin period isn't bad for it, and tends to make the engine perform better later on. No idea how true it is, but I didn't want to risk too much right off.
