alright guys so after some contemplation i have come up with a general plan for my lancer. as some of you know i have the 08 lancer es model and i live in california so its the 143hp type. i absolutely love the looks, the feel, the quality... just not digging the performance too much. i dont need a powerhouse like the evo but just something that at least feels quicker than stock.
i have put together a list of a couple of parts that i would like to purchase to increase performance as well as just make it look nicer.

for performance:
-Injen CAI
-Injen SES exhaust (sorry simmoes i know you said it would be better to go to an exhaust specialist but this is just much easier for me to do and its already legal in california which i definetly need. i dont want to get in trouble with the law because of it haha)

for looks:
-BBS RS-GT (17")
-Tein S-Tech lowering springs(this can go for both looks and handling of course)
-tint (not too much though)
-debadge

just making a post to get some feedback on my little growing list here from people that know more about cars than me haha

feel free to contribute and make recommendations or changes or w/e. just looking for a little more power is all

Rims are pretty nice. What % tint are you looking to get? Don't forget those moleskins! They will save your tint job!
Dont forget pictures when you do the mods! We are picture whores here

I really wanted to get the CAI for mine, I dont' see the point of a SAI. I mean its kinda counterproductive. If you get yours soon, let us know how it works out for ya

Sounds good man, I'm not one to go crazy over lowering springs, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder right?
Rims looks great, plan on getting a set of BBS for myself down the road.
I have heard nothing but good things about the Injen CAI.
I would imagine the same for the exhaust, the only thing that stops me from having one myself is the price, but it'll come in time.
Def wanna see pictures, I have yet to order my moleskin for the tint job and I'm still debating on what % to get mine done, looking forward to seeing yours.

-Injen SES exhaust +++
-Injen CAI w/ hydroshield +++
-WORKS SS-1 Suspension package (includes lowering springs and rear sway bar) +++
-WORKS throw short shifter w/ WORKS shift knob +++ (short shifter) +++ (shift knob)

yeah i looked at those but i just figured the whole works shifter with works knob was easier. i guess my decision lies on WHY you would recommend TWM instead of WORKS shifters haha so whats your reason for preferring the TWM shifter?

Well lets see.. WORKS drop in filter for our lancers - $129 about $80 over priced.
WORKS exhale "exhaust" for our lancers $279 ummm its a straight pipe with tip.. so its about $200 over priced. Those numbers make me think that their $149 shifter is worthless too and wont do the justice of spending so much.

Now lets take their short shifter..
WORKS shifter - $149 without bushings.. bushings are not even available.
TWM shifter - $134 without bushings, or for $5 over what WORKS shifter is, you get the shifter and bushings for $154. i've personally used a lot of shifters and by far they are the best.
Now take WORKS shift knob.. $69 and only 1 design available..
It is only 173gr/6.1oz which they claim to be such a big improvement over stock 111gr/3.9oz.
TWM shifter - A6 Leopard $99 485 grams (1.07 pounds).. Thats 2.5 times heavier than works. The heavier the knob, the easier and more precise shifting is. And with short shifter (if you know how the technology of short shifting works) everyone knows its harder to shift through gears, you need heavier knob even more. If you dont wanna drop $99, you can get others for $69 that weight less. And if you want the heaviest one, they even got 600 gram shifter for $109...

wow.. you can categorize me either as a true hater of WORKS or a salesman for TWM.. lol.. im neither by the way. just putting in my 2 cents.

well i think its safe to say i will be going with the TWM shifter haha.
so now that the shifter part is out of the way, what do you guys think about the rest of the parts i listed?
also i was rethinking the exhaust option of buying one or going to a exhaust shop and i am considering the shop as an option. i just need to know if it is really worth it to go to them and ask them to make a street legal exhaust with the same performance as say the injen ses. will it be cheaper? and will it be better than just ordering the injen ses? if its cheaper and can get me the same to similar i will go with the exhaust shop as im trying to work on a cheaper budget so i can start getting these parts sooner

another question i have thats off topic to this post has to do with shifting in general. the past 2 days i have been experimenting more with shifting at certain RPM's. sometimes i stay into my gear until 5000-6000ish then shift to see how much faster i can get. is this ok to do or is it putting too much stress on my car/ gears? i dont do this all the time just when i know i have a long straight away and i feel like going fast. usually i stay more economical about shifting and shift at about 3 1/4 RPM to conserve gas (this actually has saved a ton of gas for me)

I know I keep coming in to the lancer forum and screwing things up :P but are the works parts the same company as the works stuff for the Mini's?

WORKS used to be lancer/evo specific, now they make some parts for subarus and nissans, but still mostly for Mitsu cars. All i know is, i dont care how great their products are, they are WAY OVERPRICED.. i mean common, its F***N ridiculous to pay $129 for a drop-in filter and $279 for a pipe! Their so called rear sway bar... WTF people.. lancers already come with 22mm sway bars on GTS and 18mm sway bars on ES models.. so the only model this bar would really benefit would be DE.. guess what, it doesn't fit DE, you need some kind of adjustments.

now back to topic, I'd recommend going to a few muffler shops and discuss your options. Tell them straight up, you want performance without sacrificing street legality. You definitely want stainless steel parts, no crappy aluminum, and a good muffler. Write down your options from different shops then compare prices and etc features to each other and Injen SES.
