I just bought my 97 eclipse gsx in March. My dream car!!

Take in consideration, this car has been modified. It has upgraded turbo, turbo boost controller.. and a few other things done (exhaust, intake, motor, and beefed up automatic tranny.)

This past weekend I was on my way to work, on an ON-ramp on our crappy interstate here in IL. I hopped on it w/ controller not on. And when my boost got to about 10lbs of boost I heard a LOUD boom come from my exhaust with a small cloud of white smoke. Then everytime I pressed on the gas, it would backfire. No noise from the motor what-so-ever. But there was no peddle to push. So I pulled over, killed the car. Tried to restart it. Turned over but didn't start. I tried to start it about 3-4 times before it reved to 3500rmps and immeditately died again.. Now it turns over but doesnt start.

Its on a flatbed right now.. waiting to get into the shop and I want to know what I'm dealing with here. Because if the belt broke, I completely messed my car up. (darn interference engine!)

Well, if the timing belt broke, it'll be easy to see when they pop the cover. I'd say you'll find out quickly enough when the shop gets back to you.

You're right, maybe just let the shop handle this one. Its just going to be 3 days before they can work it into their schedule. And in my racing head, thats 3 days too long for me to NOT know.

I just wonder if it could be something else?

Well why don't you go to the shop with an 8mm and take the cover off?

122k, all maintance records, timing changed at 60,xxx and at 112,xxx. So hmmmmm.....

This car is not even in the same city as I am now. So pulling it in my garage right now, is impossible. OR yeah, the cover would be off. :(

:57: I just hooked the car up to my friends scanner. The car is fine, its a sensor. I can pull it into my garage and fix.

Actually it sounds like you blew a pipe off the intercooler.

thats what i thought i was thinking your pipe to your intake mani popped off or a intercooler pipe came off. cause if it was timing belt i know it wouldnt have started back up at all and sensor wouldnt make your car go boom, from my experience anyway.
