Hey i have a 98 eclipse spyder gs-t and i 'm pulling the engine but i need to shift the tranny over (or drop it) so i have enough clearance to get the engine out. I'm wondering if anyone has been able to move the tranny without having to disconnect the driveshaft and balljoints. All i need to do is shift the tranny over a couple inches.... i'm assuming i'll need to drop it but if anyone has any ideas i would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

I dont have a lot of exp with the 4g63 engines but if it is like every other FWD vehicle I have ever worked on you are going to have to remove the axles to get the tranny to move. It will probably be easier for you to just pull everything out in 1 piece and then separate it after its out.

i've been able to successfully remove and install the engine by dropping the upper trans mount so that the trans will "lean over". you can keep the axles intact doing this

Back when i had my 93 Subaru Impreza I had to replace 1 of the front halfshafts. Well Subarus' don't use the same type of shafts as most cars and thier inner joints attach using pins. You can only get them out 1 way. Taking the shaft out was easy. Putting the new one on required me to jack all 4 wheels off the ground just to turn 1 wheel to put the pin back in.
