1997 gsx
blown engine swapping with a jdm off ebay.

Help! My mechanic says the engine I purchased is a 95 or 96 and has different connections for the cam angle sensor. anyone know a fix for that? He says his only option is to switch the cams and internals from my blown engine. great more labor costs!

jdm engines won't drop right in. He is going to have his hands full trying to make it work.

it would probably be cheaper, and better for the car, for him to rebuild your blown engine

I have a JDM motor and it WORKS GREAT.

you just have to switch some stuff around and it WILL work.

What needs to be switched around? My mechanic says that the cam sensors are not interchangeable. He also said, one option is to replace both cams and internals. The JDM engine cam sensor has a four prong plug, but the wire harness only has three wires to connect. Is there an easier fix other than to replace both of the sensors? Is this common in JDM engines? The seller argues that there is no difference between the two.

So just have the mechanic switch the cams? I was just looking for an easier less expensive fix. Thanks

I did see on the rre site that there was a harness to connect a 1g engine to a 2g car. Would that work its 70 bucks?

the mechanic told me they do not bolt on the same way one has a bolt threaded in the center of the sensor the other does not. He said he could not put my sensor on the jdm engine. Thats why I wanted to know if all jdms are set up that way. The seller on Ebay told me this is the case and I wanted to know if he was lying.

these are the only pics I have along with the ones I posted before. The jdm sensor just bolts up differently.

Just talked with the people at Road Race Eng. and they said I have a 95 style engine. It has a 1g cas on one side and the square and triangle plugs on the opposite side and below those plugs is the crank sensor. They said to handle it like a 1g in a 2g swap, at least wiring wise. Use the 1g cam angle sensor and buy their wire harness to hook it up
