I want to get new spark plugs and I've found some I thought looked pretty good.

http://www.sparkplugs.com/more_info.asp?AA...38377&pid=25509

Can someone look at those and tell me if they're alright?

They are great for race, time attacks, etc.. basically, if you take ur car to track, u would drop these in before, then take them off and put regular ones after the race for every day driving. They are very high output, but do not last long in everyday driving condition. You would be spending $100 on 4 of them couple of times a year. Other than that, these are by far the craziest plugs ever. On dyno, they average anywhere from 6 to 14 HP gains over stock (depends on what kind of car you put them on.. i would imagine in 6-7hp range for our 4bangers).

So, besides the replacement of the plugs twice a year, would it be wise to put them in for everyday driving conditions???

Is there such a thing as running too hot of plugs? Using something like this for a daily basis, could it possibly hurt our engine?

Their website says no....but what do you think SimmoES?

I know the link doesn't say anything about life expectency, but what would you say they could last up to?

Alrighty...never mind. I just went under their site & they say:

Q: How long do Pulstar™ plugs last?
A: Pulstar™ plugs lasts as long as most spark plugs - about 50,000 miles depending on the condition of your vehicle and driving habits.

Q: How much performance improvement will I get after the installation of Pulstar™ in my car?
A: Pulstar™ pulse plugs will improve all aspects of combustion quality in your car. You will notice improved throttle responsiveness, more torque and better fuel economy. The amount of performance will depend on the make, model and condition of your vehicle. In general, you should expect torque to increase by 4 to 12% and realize a significant improvement in fuel economy.

a few people messaged me and ask me to weigh in on exhaust and pulstar stuff.

I have already started an indepth study into these plugs on the 4B11, if you wish to follow along, read http://forums.evolutionm.net/showpost.php?...29&postcount=74

then go back and read the entire thread to get caught up with whats going on.

To answer the questions about how long they will last, regular driving is good vs. high output driving. Regular driving will see a long service life. probably beyond the 50,000 mark. plugs dont self destruct that easily. These are not made of anything special, a steel alloy basically a bit stronger then your copper caliber but cant compare to platinum or higher.

The odds of the capacitor failing are higher then the plug falling apart. I think thats why they make the plugs so fragile. if anything breaks, it will cause the plug to stop firing and trigger an engine light.

hope that helps

Thanks for that information Evosoul, glad to see someone out there doesn't mind doing tests as I am short on time. So I guess the new question that hopefully you can answer after more tests would be "Should we start putting these in for everyday use for the fuel economy and/or hp+trq gains?"

everyday economy.

Until they release plugs made of sterner stuff like platinum and also a broader selection of heat ranges, this can only be used for fuel economy. In a 4 banger the gain will be decent, but on average, I can see the advantage given to cars with more pistons

For me, the focus is on TQ performance. I personally think that TQ is often over looked.

I am also running Pulstar Plugs in my 08 Lancer and the most gains I have noticed with them is fuel ecomy.

When I first got my Lancer back in November, I was averaging 25.7 MPG with mostly city driving. Lately, since installing the Pulstar Plugs I am averaging about 27.6-28.7 MPG with mostly city driving!

Unfortunately, the MPG gains are not fully conclusive to just the Pulstar Plugs because I also have an intake and exhaust that I installed back in January-February. However, when I just had the Intake and exhaust installed I was averaging around 26.7 MPG mostly city driving. So, there has been at least a 1-2 MPG increase since installing the Pulstar Plugs.

I have also noticed a very slight but noticeable increase in low-end torque.

i heard that the mpg thing can lie sometimes, i posted on 4b11lancers.com that i had 32.6 mpg (i was shocked of that) and they said it could possible been a error with the mpg reader or something.

Yeah...I have been reading that the MPG computer on the car may need up to 3 tanks for it to "relearn".

Either way I plan on getting this done within a month or 2 for sure. Why not....if they are all that then great. My dealership has been really cool with me so if anything should go wrong....they got my back.
Any improvement in the MPG's for me is always helpful.

I calculate my mileage by hand after filling my gas tank everytime I fill up! The calculations in my last post were what I have calculated since owning the car.

My MPG computer reads anywhere from 30-34.5 on average! Which that used to read as high as 27-30 prior to installing all my mods!

I've being using pulstar plugs since they've been on the market. I have them in all my vehicles, 93 & 95 Dodge stealth, 95 Chevy suburban, 05 2500 Dodge Ram, Yamaha wolverine 450, Yamaha 660 Grizzly and Suzuki M50 Blvd. THEY ARE PRICEY but in my opinion worth it. I've noticed a definite improvement in engine response but no improvement in mileage. Be sure that you DO NOT gap them over .040 The instructions say to set them at your factory recomended setting but don't go over .040. That came straight from Enerpulse tech dept. when I spoke with them. For a little more power you might try bumping your timing up a little bit but there again be carefull! You don't want detonation too far before TDC or you'll actually lose power not gain it and possibly bend valves. I've only had one problem since using these. I started noticing a slight miss in my 95 Stealth and found that one of the insulators on a plug was loose. Called Enerpulse and they replaced it no questions asked.

Cool...thanks for the info. Next check when I get a little extra....I hope. I will get a set & see what happens. A little extra ooomph would be nice in the car...but if ther is any chance of getting better mpg's...even a slight increase would be nice.

If you're having fouling problems with them you might want to check that your gap doesn't exceed .040 or maybe you have another underlying isuue. These plugs are supposed to be good for 50,000+ mi. I've got over 60,000 on the set in my 05 Dodge 2500 truck w/5.7L Hemi and I beat the living hell out of it. If you call Enerpulse and talk with a tech. they can help you troubleshoot your issue with a description of your plus appearance. No way you should have to replace them 4 times a year daily driving. Here's a good link to help with plug diagnostics:

Just a quick little update!

I filled up my gas tank today and I calculated 30.6 MPG/City! Basically a +2 MPG increase from the last time I checked, which I calculated 28.7 MPG/City!

In terms of better mileage, I would have to the Pulstar Plugs are working as advertised. I am seeing at least a 10-15% increase in fuel economy.

I'm looking into buying some pulstar spark plugs i'm just wondering what do they mean by Pulse Gap: 0.040 ". I'm just worried about this because i'm planning on installing the plugs by myself because it sounded like an easy installation so why not.

gap the plugs at .040" thats all, I think the stock OEM lancer plugs are gapped at .035 factory

its pretty straight forward.
