How far does you temperature guage creep up? If you're going up a hill, your engine works harder and it's normal for the temperature to go up a little. When you are waiting at a stoplight, your car is stopped so there is little air traveling across the radiator. When your engine temperature rises, it causes the fans to kick on and it should come down a little. So far it sounds like your temperature guage is working normally unless you have a check engine light lit up or something like that. Check the fans to make sure they kick on when you're stopped and idling for a while. Also, check to see if you're not missing your water pump belt and/or your water pump isn't whining loudly. Other than that, I think everything is working properly. I seriously doubt if a dealership would cover any repairs to your car if the mileage is over 100,000, sorry. If you can get them to do anything for free count yourself lucky. They usually like to charge fees just to take a look at it.
