Hello everyone...I'm new to the forums, but I do read a lot here. I've learned lots from reading your posts and have really started to love my car....sure its an RS but I don't need more. Ha.

But more on topic..I bought my eclipse in August. It wasn't badly priced at $2900, but recently I've had to do lots of work. It has a new water pump, radiator, struts and control arms.. and some new tires. All of the new parts were because the old ones started to fail and I've been slowly breathing life back into this car. It was bone stock, clean, and has a perfect body. It was currently at 99k miles when I bought it..now I'm up to 105k and recently started to have some transmission problems..Basically...if I stop too hard or go up a small slope the vehicle slides itself into neutral. I have to park the car and wait a second before putting it back into drive..it doesn't do it too often, but it happens enough to scare me.. :P Anyone know what might be going on?

These cars get destroyed so often that its nice to hear another restoration story. have you checked the fluid level of the trans?

It is an automatic.. I haven't checked the fluid in a few weeks...actually. But the fluid level was fine the first few times it did this to me.

when it slips in to neutral does the shifter actually move or does it just stop going when you hit the gas?

The shifter stays in drive...for instance.. The other morning it was raining hard and I stopped kinda hard for a yellow and waited until I got the green..when I did the car revved up and the rpm needle goes up...but the car stays put. I then put it in neutral...back to drive...park...neutral...park drive..you know. Eventually after a hard shift and a jerk forward the car drove normal.

sometimes the selector on the transmission (the place where the shift cable mounts to) corrodes inside the transmission. It causes all the symptoms you just described. If you know how to do this pull the selector assembly out and clean it up. this should help.

OR it could be that the cable itself has stretched over the years and slips in between neutral and drive. check the tension on the cable when it is in drive (you will need a friend for this). If it feels pretty loose adjust as necessary
