Ok, I have heard back in the day with the Honda VTEC engines that the VTEC module can be "OPENED" up so it has the better performance through all RPMs rather that waiting for a certain RPM to engage. I know there was some debate in the forums on the exact workings of the MiVEC system and when it engages but I do agree from come of my own Dyno tests that the MiVEC dose not fully engage until 3k-4k. Is there a way of adjusting or manipulating the MiVEC like they used to for the VTECs?

Best person to ask about this would be manybrews.

He is a tech for Mitsu "for a long time" That would be the 1st guy that comes to mind to ask. Possibly EVOSOUL is another guy with alot of knowledge on our cars.

Yeah with Honda's...you can get a tune by HONDATA that would make the VTEC kick in as early as 4500

from what I understand, Vtec is set that way at the 4000k point by design. This is why honda's have a very forgiving redline. Hondas in essence are ment to be driven hard in the high end. Its not relavent to lower the VTEC engagement point. when your in a race you want to utilize all availible power, fuel considerations are out the window.

MIVEC goes in the other direction. By making use of TQ in the low end in two stages, This is why you hear about the cross between high RPM performance and Low end performance. Hondas have always been dogs in the low end. If you hook a RSX and a 2.4 Lancer bumper to bumper and turn it into a pulling contest. the Lancer would be making short work of the honda engine.

ALso there are a few other differences between Mivec and Vtec, Mivec manipulates both the intake and exhaust valves, Vtec I think only manipulates the intake valves. I wrote a bit about both technologies when i looked at the pulstar plugs. Again this is why I think the benefits of pulstar may be more visible in the Mivec technology, due to exhaust valve timing. http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.php?t=329967

cheers

there have been several posts about this, but Ill summarize again.

the "MIVEC" on the lancer that you're driving is NOT mitsus true design. This "mivec" does NOT have variable lift or multiple lobes on the cams.
It is ONLY variable valve timing, albeit on both intake and exhaust cams.
they use the term "MIVEC" strictly as a marketing effort, as they coined the term for their engines. Technically, its only VVT, but that terms been used by others.

This video was definitely interesting. I don't know much about engines so it is nice to learn a little something about the 4b11 engine. I hope that after putting on my intake and exhaust and shocks, i'll get a little bit more power when MIVEC kicks in.
