Hey all, i'm new to the forum and to mitsubishi ownership. that is i just got a 2003 Lancer OZ Rally 5-spd. I've been looking online for aftermarket headlights (halo projectors) but have only found them for the 2004-2006 models.

My question is can those be modified in any way to fit the 2003? and if not does anyone know a place that sells them? or better yet has some they want to sell?

first thing you need to do is type "Wikipedia Mitsubishi lancer history" in your google search engine. then read up on your car. as it states they 2000-2003 model lancers, es, ls, OZ rally, and Ralliart for the united states. the trim levels from the evo and the non turbo'd lancers were so similar they re-designed the 2004-2006 with new facia trims and a rear end to differentiate it further from the EVO. as you can see the original lancer had a more 4 corner definitive shape and the 2004-2006 has a more 3 corner triangle look.

basically the problem is. with your car when you open the hood your grill raises with it. on the 2004-2006 models the grill is part of the front bumper. also the hoods are shaped differently to accommodate the shapes of the headlights as well. basically to make the new lights fit you would have to make your own mounts for them, and replace the hood and the front bumper.

i suggest you look up the how to make your own custom halo lights instead of buying some. you can buy a heat gun and heat the glue on the front of your head light enough to pull the clear plastic off the front. remember not to burn the windscreen of the head lights they are mostly made of hardened plastic now, so watch out.

below is a, from memory, instructions on how to make your own halo head lights. i wanted halo lights on my 94 ford escort GT and had to get the plans on how to make my own, but i'd rather just tell you how to do it than ask you to look for it.

then go buy some clear plastic house window blind regulators. the little stick next to your bedroom window that you twist to flip your blinds up and down. heat it up with the heat gun, and form it around a circular object. big enough to not interfere with your original head light mirror section. let it cool. then take it and make small drill holes or cut marks whichever is easiest for you all around the ring from one side to the other. this allows a surface to reflect the light out. now, cut a section out of the center of the bottom where the ring meets with each end. make the section long enough to hold 2 led lights that you will hook into a series.

build a small metal casing to hold the led lights. solder the lights in a series, and tape or heat shrink the exposed areas of metal.hook a red wire to one end and a black wire to the other end. then insert the led lights so they are facing towards the outside of this casing. make a small tube the same size of your casing that will be long enough you won't burn yourself when you do this next step.

take the metal tubing and heat it up to a nice red glow. then insert the plastic ring into the end of the tube long enough to melt a 1/8 inch outer ring section on the end. repeat for the other end. hook these new tips into the casing you built. use some super glue to secure them in.

now find where your new halo light ring will mount inside your headlight. drill a hole from the inside to the outside on the bottom of your headlight right where your led metal casing is supposed to sit at. i know this will be partially difficult, but drilling a hole from bottom to top can just cause you to have a crappy looking setup with wires running out somewhere else from under your halo ring.

once the hole is drilled. run the red and black wires you hooked to the leds in the hole, then mount the halo ring with some super glue. now re-heat the glue on the cover for your head lights. reinstall the face shield on the head lights.

use instant connectors, or jump wires to hook your led wires up to your parking lights. then plug your head light back in. once you turn on your parking lights you will see the effects you will get.

you can pre-test this before you mount it in your head light to make sure your cut or drill marks work good.

i suggest if you do attempt this that you form both halo's at the same time, so that they are not different in size when you hook them up. also when building the metal casing for the LED lights i suggest you do those at the same time so you get the same lengths.

if you don't want to try this, it looks like you will never have halo lights on your car. i looked everywhere and trust me all i do is play on the internet all day long. its the only thing i have as entertainment. i could seriously not find any halo projection lights for your car. so its either this, or nothing.

you can possibly e-mail SC customs hes a moderator for the 3G eclipse thread and 4G eclipse thread. e-mail him directly from his profile and ask him if his shop can possibly make some for you. i think you would much rather have the stocks modified than have to replace your hood and front bumper. thats gonna be a ton more expensive if you have to replace all that just for head lights, and then you still have to buy head lights............YIKES!!!!

That sucks that they had to change the body style, but I suppose they have to be competitive. I noticed after I picked up my car (just this past saturday) that the grill was attached to the hood. It kind of disappointed me because I had wanted to put in some LED driving lights in there... not going to work too well if the wires are going to be pulled up every time I open the hood.

Still I have to wonder why they bother to make the Euro tail lights, but not projector or Halo headlight assemblies. Well anyway I ramble on; thank you again for all your advice, I really appreciate it.

you can still do driving LED lights in your grill, with the wires attached to your hood, then run the wires next to your hinge and then to your battery, alternator, or internal switch.

just like the inside engine light that comes on and shines on your engine when you open your hood on the newer cars.

how do you think those lights get power, through osmosis?

its not that hard just remember to use convoluted tubing and some zip strips or whatever to fasten the wires to your hood.

but i would be careful those colored LED lights tend to be illegal.

oh **** i never thought of that. i'm pretty sure i'll be ok though, the ones i want aren't colored just plain white/bluish hue and they don't strobe at all so i should be good. i'll double check with the town and state laws/regulations though. thanks :)
