I have just gotten my 03 gts out for the summer and no more than two weeks after getting it out I started to smell burning coolant.I went and checked over all the lines to make sure they had no holes or that they were loose. They were fine, my next guess would be my water pump or radiator. My oil isn't foggy and looks fine. and I am not leaking anything out of my radiator My question is how much of a pain is it to replace the water pump myself . If anyone can give me any ideas of what else it could be that would be awesome

i would say it could be sipping out from a line even a small hole takes out alot.let the car run on a dry place and look for leaks under it.maybe a line behind the motor.

ok first things first. when did you smell this coolant evaporation smell? where you in your car or out? did you have the window open or not?

if you were in your car and smelled the coolant smell. you most likely looking at some kind of heater core leak. top off your radiator and then get your engine up to operating temp. let it idle for about 15-25 minutes. turn your car off and wait 10 minutes. now feel the carpet right next you your center console. all the way up to the very front. if you find some wetness you need a new heater core my man. check it out and tell me if thats it.

I started to smell it when i had the windows down. I did check the carpet around the on the passanger side. It was dry. I just checked my oil to see if it was getting foggy and it was. SO it has to be the water pump. My my next question is should i just replace the timing belt as well. I have 57,000 on the car and it is still all original parts.

ok. With the water pump burning up like that. would that not cause the coolant to leak into the oil

It wouldn't otherwise you would have coolant leaking into the oil all the time.

I suggest you do your timing belt you are already there do the TP, IP, Balance belt and check your auto tensioner too it's a great insurance.

Good luck
