I'm new here. I just bought a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T. The interior and exterior are almost perfect. Only one minor problem. Actually its quite large. Someone tried changing the engine to a 1997, and supposively it ran on two cylinders. I started calling around and I have been told they are different motors. The 1995-1996 and the 1997-1999 arent the same. People opinions on what i should would be much appreciated. I mean i bought the car for $500, so i have about $1000 to $1500 to put into the motor, but the cheapest way would be appreciated. Thank-you again!

The only possible motors you could have are the 2L 4g63T or the 2.4L non turbo.

I also am going to look at a 1995 Eclipse GS that is all running for some parts. It has a lowering kit. If anyone needs or wants anything let me know.

The only diff in the two motors is that they may have different locations to bolt onto the tranny. I have an unmatching motor and tranny and it really doesn't effect anything.

if your car is a gs-t thats your motor unless its out of a 90-92 then thats the motor you should have only thing i see is that your exhaust needs to be on the turbo i cant tell but looks like your turbo is there since the intake is on there its hard to tell. everything else looks in place except that fuse box should be mounted on top not on side but that doesnt matter.

what do you think might be wrong considering when it does run it only runs on two cylinders. I know possibley plugs and maybe firing order, but what about does the eprom ecu from the 1995 need to be changed to the ecu without the eprom from the 1997

No. You have a problem in your ignition system somewhere. Start with plugs and wires and work your way to the ECU. Im in the same boat.

Have you tried swapping the plug wires for the number 3 and 4 cylinders? The fireing order is different for 95-96 than 97-99. If they left it the same as the car the engine came out of, then that could be the reason.

And you shouldn't have to change the computer, people put 95 ecu's in 97+ cars all the time with no problems.
