I got my 97 GS-T from some kid who put some aftermarket speakers in the back, but I'm not sure what brand they are. He also put in a head that has sub output so I don't necessarily need an amp.

Here's the problem. When I have the volume anything above normal, the bass starts getting distorted and sounds like crap. Also, I can never hear any of the low end in any music, like bass drum or bass. Should I look into replacing the speakers, or should I get a sub? I remember having all-stock speakers in my old RS and the sound quality was pretty much the same - it sucked above normal volume. There's a single audio wire leading to the trunk - could it be for a sub that the guy before me may have had back there? I'm not exactly electronic wiring-savvy, so I'm not sure if everything's pretty much set up already or not. Shouldn't there be two wires?

Sorry for the disorganized, messy post. Any answers would be appreciated

Even with the subout function, you still need to get an amp. Subout just converts all the signals from the head to the amp as low frequency only.

If the guy before you had a sub, there would be 3 or 4 wires running to the trunk. A power, ground, remote, and RCA connector.

I can help you get a really good system going for really cheap. Read the pinned topic about installation and components up there. It will help you make a decision and also teach you how to get this stuff wired up.

If you have any other questions, you can post them here or PM me.

So the 200W power output still doesn't mean its just ready for a sub? Bummer

200w power means 50 watts max per speaker, 22 watts RMS per speaker.
