Hey everyone... A friend of mine has a 02 Eclipse 4cyl, non turbo. Car has about 50k on it and runs good. He bought it a few months ago bone stock, and put on a header, intake and exhaust. Before he put the header on, with the stock manifold when he would drive it hard for a while the manifold would start glowing red.. Is that normal?? The 1st cat was eliminated when the header was installed (didn't seem to be clogged) and the second cat seems like it is in good shape too... Anyway last night we went out to the street races. I raced him just for shits and giggles in my 02 accord family sedan... 4 cylinder, no vtech, no nada.. Original air filter i think. Anyway, beat him by about 3 car lenghts.. We raced about 6 times and i beat him consistently each time, the car is an auto, so shifting isn't in question.. But does this sound right??? I mean is there somthing wrong with his car or are the 4cyl eclipses that pathetic of a performer that a 4 cyl 4 door accord takes them out with ease... Any input would be appreciated...

anyway, yes the 4cyl is pathetic. the auto puts about 107hp to the ground and the manual has about 117whp. what year was the accord?

just let your friend know.....the intake, headers, exhaust might have gave him about 10-15hp.

yes it is normal for the exhaust manifold to start glowing are moderately hard driving

I drag raced my boy in his '93 4 door Accord w/ my '02 non-turbo 4-cyl. Eclipse before I installed my APEX catback exhaust system and it was pretty even, his was manual as well as mine, till I shifted to 4th and took off I didn't really get ahead of him, we stayed side my side most of the time.

I believe the 4-cyl Eclipse has 140 somethin' hp ...

not trying to be a butthole but if you have a '00+ eclipse, then we all know that they are non-turbo. no eclipse after '99 came with turbo. theres no need to say non-turbo

the 4cyl eclipse has like 147hp to the CRANK. the auto has about 107 to the WHEELS and the manual has about 117hp to the WHEELS. for the members who dont know, nobody cares how much hp you have to the crank....all that matters is how much power you are putting to the ground

140 Horses, is what the 02 Eclipse puts out? The Accord my friend LT1 man spoke of is an 01 135 horse F23A5 2.3 4 cyl, the Mitsu is a 2.4 4G64, the magizine here says it has 141 horses. WHY CANT THIS THING MOVE? Does anyone know anything about this car? I wanna help out my boy. I'm not trying to be a DICK but its looking to me like MOST people in here care only about body kits and non sense. The car has a header on it which helped significantly in Upper end power. The Intake did not a damn thing... I take that back, it makes noises and took about 3 lbs of plastic **** out from under the hood. I am wondering if this car is supposed to run like this or is something wrong with his car. Any help would be appreciated. Mechanical advice preffered.

yes the 4cyl eclipse does have 140hp, but its to the crank. the auto 4cyl puts about 107hp to the wheels and the manual puts about 117hp to the ground. i have seen dynos that prove this. can you see now why this car cant move? what type of header does this car have?

yeah, 120hp to the wheels on a heavy car like a 3g kinda sucks, i think that the 1g turbo is the fastest of the three, but thats probably cause i have one.

what does the RS-R symbol mean? like "type R"?

Since I got a mod or two on the car and I saw this custom Sport Edition RS-R emblem my friend had on his Integra, i think it was, i took it from him since I have the RS trim 3g. Looks like the OZ RALLY one on the Lancer, the rectangular one. I need to take some pix of it anyway so when I get her out the shop gettin' some dents knocked out, my fiancee crashed it, :clap:.

I plan to turbo charge her once I finish moving to FL....

that is disappointing man <_< . most of us try to keep our cars away from the ricer kids and you go and put a type R emblem on your car
