I have an 98 eclipse gs N/T with of course the 2.0 DOHC in it and the clutch is beggining to slip. I was wondering if anybody knew about how much parts and labor would be to replace the clutch. I called a shop and they said parts would be $380 and said it was about a 7 hour job at 65 dollars an hour making the job like 850 dollars. And that seems kinda pricey to replace a clutch, but I dont know. I just want OEM parts, nothing fancy unless of course aftermarket is cheaper.

BTW, Im new to the forum and knew forums were really helpful with this kind of thing so i decided to go ahead and register.

Like I said before I got a 98 eclipse gs and its pretty much bone stock. I would like to modify it but dont really have the money.

Get a manual and do it yourself. Like Bryan said, it only takes a few hours, and it would be a good learning experience for you.

i would love t do projects like this myself, but a lot of backyard mechanic stuff necessitates certain tools and facilities. I live in an apartment, so i dont have a garage to keep projects in, and i certainly dont have the appropriate tools. doing things yourself doesnt just require a repair manual, it requires a LOT more, and that the problem most people have, i think.

All you need is a full set of metric half inch sockets, a floor jack, a strong friend, and 30 or 32 MM socket.

I would have it done at a shop, but I would still buy the manual so you can learn more about your car.

I need to do mine as well. I've changed them before in my own little garage with no lifts, pretty much swore I wasn't doing it like that again.
Priced it out and yeah, it's between a 6-8 hour job. (Depending on what labor system the shop is using) I priced it at my shop and it'd run around $750 just for labor. But our labor rate is $81/hour. Call around, sometimes you can luck out and find a good shop with a lower rate. I found one with a 40/hour rate, my shop price matches, I'm paying $240 for labor plus parts.

So I called around to about 6 shops and the highest I got was $1156 at a dealership lol . And the lowest was $515, which I'll probably go with. I called around to some people I know in the area he is located and they all said that the shop owner was a pretty good guy, so he's got my business.

I would attempt to do it myself, but I dont have the tools to do it at all. Like literally I sometimes cant find a phillips head screwdriver in my garage. The tools that I do have are thrown on the floor and all loose inside a bucket. Im pretty un organized at the time, obviously.

But thanks everybody for the input

Good price on a clutch.

I still suggest you get the haynes or Chilton guide and sit down with a beer one night and take look through it.
