So i have finally come to the conclusion that i want at least the '08/'09 Lancer ES, or if i can afford it, the '09 GTS. So yeah......The first step i did today. Learned to drive manual. and learned it well 3hours into it i was driving around town. So yeah i will keep this topic going and keep you all posted as to my progress in getting the Lancer by this august.

Cant wait

Yeah,if u have that budget it would be better if u get a GTS not necessary with the sound system if ur not a big fan of SS,i would say the GTS just look better than the ES,with its rear spoiler, bodykits and 18" rims :)

Good Luck. Lancers are real fun cars to drive.
And I cant lie, an excellent bang for your buck.

Before my Lancer, the smallest Autos I've owned were a '91 Acura Legend and an '00 Audi A6.... NO WAIT, my 1st car was a Dodge Shadow (Yuck!)

I ended up with my car because I was upside-down on my Audi A6 (Quattro, google and see the list of problems that happen with it) and it was falling apart.
I had to get a car under 25k, so my payment wouldn't be too high.

My company works with Mitsu, GM, Ford, Mazda & Chrysler, so we get deals on them.

For under 22k, I narrowed my choices down to Mitsubishi Lancer & the Mazda 3 AKA I just saw 10 of them b4 i reached my mailbox). I didn't really want to do an american car, I only like the trucks/SUVs.

What put me ahead was the gadgets (the fastkey, bluetooth, navi, etc).

Plus after driving in both, i knew the lancer was the right fit.
I bought the GTS (CVT) for a bit under 19.5k with the S&S, Navi pkg and I have never been happier with an auto purchase, and neither will you.

Good Luck, August will be here in no time..

Oh yeah August will be here in no time. And i definitely want the manual trans on the car though. Definitely had more fun driving the manual today over my automatic. But saturday, going to the dealership to take a look and try and test drive one.

So if anyone has driven a non modded 2007 eclipse and then drove the '09 GTS (manual on both) how does the shifting stack up to each other?

I personally found the clutch on the Eclipse to be a little sticky. I think the lancer is the smoother of the two. I went the with Auto on the lancer, I already have a 5spd Vr-4 so no need for two man. cars.... I am so lazy lol.
Lancer looks so much better than the eclipse! Welcome to the board and cant wait to see pics in august when you get it!
Any idea what color you want?

Actually, if possible could you make a video driving the 2.4L 09 GTS versus the 2.0L ES, I would like to hear the difference in engine noise and acceleration.

If you have a dealer near you just go say your thinking of buying the new one (the one you want to hear) and take it for a test drive. That way you get the experience first hand.

Don't act like a dipshit though when you go into the dealer or they will tell you to get lost.

Walk in be like I'd like to look at __________- sit in it talk with the guy and act as if your just looking for something newer and ask if you can test drive it to feel the the difference as that will close the deal. At the end of it all be nice and just tell them that you A like your car better, B will think about it.

Be warned you may get roped into playing along for some number crunching and BS sales and number talks, just DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING!

Yeah i will see about doing that, the phone is not the best recording device for it but i will definitely see what i can do. Also if they do not have both i wont be able to. But definitely if they do i will test it out because the salesman already knows i was looking at the ES first, so definitely gonna pull that string

Play the salesman better than they play you.

Just got off the phone with the dealership. And they have on hand both a 5spd and CVT '09 GTS for tommorrow for me to test drive.

Still going to buy it in 5spd but might test drive the CVT to see what it is like.

I originally went with an 08 ES 5 spd, then traded up to a 2009 GTS 2.4 CVT. I really wish I had gone with the 5 spd, I'm really not liking the CVT. The power really gets robbed if running the AC, it manual was def louder, and the gas milage was def better. If not running the AC the 09 def feels faster, not sure if it's the extra engine displacement or not. I've tried the manual shifting on the CVT and it just isn't the same.

I'm not going to pick your car for you, i'm just going to recommend a few things to you.

Test drive the cars first
Hold out for the one you really want, don't settle

true but i dont plan on buying tommorrow, it will be mid august when i get mine...This thread will progress over the next few months, and beyond. but read some earlier posts, they explain what i will do and what i will get. I want exactly that and wont settle for anything, except maybe if it was blue and not red (colors dont matter so much to me as the packages i want on the car)
