During winter while the check engine light randomly comes on, my car runs fine. But as the temperature warms up, my car starts to idle surge while parked, neutral or cruising. However the check engine light is random, the two events do not happen at the same time, and the idle surge only happens in warmer weather after the engine has also warmed up some. I can't afford to pay $300 do diagnose and repair this, but I can afford to buy the part and get it installed. But what do I replace?? Any help would be much appreciated!!

Sounds like the Idle control sensor.

Your best bet is to go the auto zone with the light on and get it scanned and get the code. Its free too.

the check engine light detects a fault in the sensors

It could be the air flow meter
the o2 sensor in the exhaust manifold
if an auto the temp sensor in the inlet manifold
the TPS as mentoned above
or the ecu
or other

try disconnecting the battery terminals first then reconnecting them see if the fault goes away

the downloadable manual ,if there is one listed for your engine,
may have the diagnostic chart you need
