ok i built a 96 GSX 7 bolt and for some reason my stock lifters were sticking open. So i called slowboy and ordered a set of revised lifters and installed them once they pumped up the valves stuck open agian!!! the only difference is the new lifters dont look like there pushed out real far they look normal but you can see the valve is down. now its a completly redone head with about 5 minutes of running on it, i know the vlaves arnt bent cause after about 5 minutes there is 180lbs of compression. i talked to my guy who does my mechine work and asked if he groung the valve stem after he cut the valve and seat and he did so i know the sten isnt to long. and this isnt my first rodeo aither iv n been messing with 4G63's for around 5 years now but this problem has me stumped im just seeing if someone may have a sugestion cause im open!!!

sounds like the heads need more service, does it make a loud pop something like a back fire when the valve sticks?

now i was messing with it today for a little and im just wondering i did acouple more tests on it and the lifters arnt stuck out real far so i was wondering could possible the valve seats not me cut enought and when they hear up they shrink{beings the seats are brass and that shrinks when it get hot} and im just beating around the bush up top and i need the pull the head??? it just is frustrating cause theres alot of time and money in it and everything on the motor is new so i know its not something bad and when you first start the car it runs great but dies down quick and the comnpression comes back slowly as if the seats were cooling and reseating the valves?? im not sure but i dont know im ready to make it a rolling fireball down my street!!! LOL

Sorry for all the questions but

do you have aftermarket cams?

are ALL the valves floating like that or just a few?

Did your machinist measure the springs for compression or fatigue?

you mentioned that the seats, lifters and guides were new but I didn't notice if you said the valves were new. are the valves OEM or aftermarket?

if the valves are new:
what brand?
stock dimensions?
angling?

it is also possible, but doesnt usually happen, that the cam gears were aligned 180 degrees opposite of where they should be and the spark plug wires are also reversed.

With the mention of the compression it does sound like a machinist issue.

Think about it. Your springs control your lifters. If your brand new lifters are getting stuck and your springs are pretty old...

What im saying is replace your springs :P

if timing is on and everything else seems ok then your thinking should be correct. if they are sticking open like that they are probably bent, or like eric said the machinist probably cut something wrong. I can't remember if you mentioned this but why did you have the head work done in the first place? did the timing belt break?

he put oem replacements and cut the seats stems and heads because 4 were bent fron when the kid befor me had it, but i got the head off today and found that my backfiring and no idle is because the intake gasket was to big and the very corner of the intake manifold was open but it going to the mechine shop tommorrow and he said he will go completly over it and let me know there is always the possiblity a mesurment is worng...but we will see, i also got the correct mesurment of the stem for justin, the engine builder at slowboy, but i will update tommorrow with what the mechenist says

i riped the head off and found it had the improper intake manifold gasket on it and it was leaking around the sides of the intake manifold so that was most likely the running rich and backfiring and no idle. but its at the shop no getting the valves checked and spring tension checked so i should have it back friday he said so illkeep in touch.
