I used the search function and I couldn't find anyone talking about their 2009 Lancer's having paint problems (good sign I hope)...

So I wanted to know, does anyone here have a 2009 Lancer with paint problems? Thanks.

I bought an 09 lancer 2 1/2 weeks ago. Theres a small ding in the hood from a rock above the drivers side headlight. Looks like it went right through the paint.

I don't think the 09's are painted any better than the 08's

(FYI I have about 3,700 km's on it, mostly highway. )

I have a GTS 09 and yes it sucks...I have paint chips on the rear door, weird "swirlies" on the hood. and that's after 2 months of ownership. I drive all highway. I stopped washing my car, I am sick of finding paint chips or other paint anomalies! What piss me off is that my Hyundai Accent looked better after 2 years then this Lancer does after 2 months.

I've just bought a new 2008 Lancer with ground effects. After one week I was back to the dealer complaining about the paint getting chipped off the rear doors and lower flares. I had ordered front flaps with the car, but upon delivery was informed that front flaps were unavailable for the Lancers with ground effects package. I expressed concern that paint damage was inevitable without front flaps. Also, the lack of a stone guard / film on rear door / wheel wells only compounds the proble.

After 3 months I still have had no resolution to the paint damage. The dealer has been very helpful, they eventually modified a set of front flap to fit the car, but the damage was already done.

Mitsubishi Canada won't admit to the problem, and says that the type of damage I am experiencing is only happening in 8 of ten Provinces, Ontario and Alberta excluded.
There are even reports of the same problem in the U.S.

This whole problem could've easily been avoided had Mitsubishi designed front map flaps for the cars with ground effects, and installed stone chip film.

Two estimates put the repair cost at about 1500 cdn. Mitsubishi has offered up about 200 cdn as a "Goodwill Gesture" - Best Backed Cars in the World? What a Joke!

In all fairness to the dealer, they have tried to help, but have gotten nowhere with Mitsubishi Canada. They did install a set of temporary flaps, and have agreed to apply the stone chip film.

I just purchased a 2009 Lancer GTS.

I am planning to put protection film on it. I also ordered the rear mudguard from the dealer.

I received a quote from a place, and he said the complete kit including hood, fender, mirrors, grill and bumper cost you $795 USD in xpel and $895 USD in 3M. What do you think? Is there any additional part where I should apply protection film?

Sounds pricey just for stone chip film, I'd definitely shop around. A local supplier of the 3m product quoted me around $50.00 -$60.00 to apply the film to the read doors, rear wheel fender, and lower rear skirt. The film is not that expensive (its only an adhesive backed clear film). Its mostly the labor that adds up. If you allow $200.00 for the film, that's still $500 US in Labor! Thats a full day in a shop at $75.00 / hr labor.

Yea, I'm shopping around right now. I e-mailed couple of installers and waiting for their reply.

The quote I got from the installer, I thought it's the full estimate (film + labor). If it's not, then that's way expensive. I will clarify when I get more reply from other installers.

I took the precaution of having Xzilon applied to my Lancer two weeks after I got it. It makes a difference protects your paint, protects against small scratches, and acid rain plus its so easy to clean spray some water on and wipe off looks good as new.

If anyone wants info on it let me know i can provide some.

All right, I think I found a good place in Boston area to get paint protection and tint protection.

It'll be $395 for paint protection and $245 for tinting.
The PPF will be using clearshield and tinting will be using 3M.

next year i am planning to buy a acura tsx or tl and trade my lancer.

when i bought the protection film, they only install half of the hood, full protection on the bumper, head light, side mirrors, 3 1/2 inches wide on the roof and they didn't include the running boards.

it helps a lot on the front but the paint job

I have the exact same issues. I have now noticed stones went right through the front end under the head lights. The dealership touched all the spots with something a preschooler could have done. Looks like white out. This was suppose to be temporary till Mitsu Cananda came up with something. 4 mnths later NO CALL. I sick of bugging and them blaming it on me.

My best answer is just don't drive it hahahaha. Even then ,ust spots show through. Mine dose.hahaha. Its a pile. I would never EVER EVER recommned this car to anyone!. Get it payed off and get rid of it. Thats waht Im doing.

i too have noticed problems with my brand new 2009 lancer. it hasnt even had its first oil cange yet and there is a stone chip on the back door. with a total of about 2200 miles on my car i drove to the dealer ship to purchase my magic marker of touch up paint. i am a body man and decided to take car of the problem myself, i get home and notice that my problem seemed to be deeper than just a stone chip, sumthin hit the door and took a chunk of paint off but extremly easily and it seemed wen i inspected it as if the paiont was not applied coreectly, or the prep work was not done correcctly cuz my chip that went from about the size of a pencil eraser easily ended the size of about a thumb nail. thats about how much i had to chip the rest of the way off befor i could get the paint to feather, i applied the touch up paint ( rally red) then the clear coat, wet sanded and now u can never tell it happend. but i find it interesting that so many have been having prolems with the rear doors and fronts of the cars. my car also has aside from horribly orange peel paint, a factory blemish on the very tip of the nose. right above where the grill is. looks as if the paint was wet and sumone walked into it. i love the car, just frustrating when ur trying to keep it nice and u find all these things.

09 must be same as 08 with this Eco-friendly paint...i noticed a small rust spot already and its only been 2 weeks since i have bought the car, along with 3 chips in the paint...the car has under 1000 miles on it...this is rediculous.
