I've owned many cars for eight years or longer and never had a cracked dash (Honda, Acura, Infiniti, Chevy, Dodge, etc...) all parked outside 24/7. As many have experienced cracked dashes with the Eclipse, I WOULD consider this a defect in materials.

Does everyone who has a Mitsubishi with a cracked dash also experienced this with their other cars? I wouldn't think so.

hey SC i think i know what he's looking for, especially since he is a previous honda owner.

yeah g_man your right, Mitsubishi used crappy materials on the Eclipse and their dashes are ****. but for god sakes let it go man if you want great quality in a sports compact car i don't suggest you look for a cheap car. the Mitsubishi eclipse was one of the most inexpensive sport compact cars ever made, and hey look at me i can actually sit 4 full grown men in my car. if you want a reliable engine and transmission sports compact car i do suggest you keep your Eclipse. (well if it is a GS/RS) inline 2.4L FTW.

if you think you've had some kind of epiphany and decided to let the world of Eclipse owners know there are better cars out there, your kind of not speaking to the right crowd in here. we all basically know the crap we have to deal with to keep driving a nice looking sport compact car. we have all weighed the pros against the cons. we are keeping our cars because they are better than driving a plain looking civic or a larger family coupe like the accords.

yes there are some cheap materials used in the Eclipse, but thats how you end up with a inexpensive car that looks good. they tend to cut corners in areas where it doesn't really matter. who cares if your dash is cracked? take a 2.4L 4g64 engine and Frankenstein it with a 4G63T head. rebuild your internals, buy a racing transmission, drop a massive turbo in and boost it up to 30psi. buy some drag tires and buy a racing suspension. lets not forget a little N2O not too much though, you will be sitting in one of the fastest front wheel drive vehicles in America. there are 1000hP eclipse with the 2.0L 4G63t engines in them. imagine what a stroked version of that motor with and extra .4L could accomplish!!!!!

Only problem with our cars being 1000hp and the 4g63T being able to handle it, the 4g63t is a cast iron block with an aluminum cylinder head as opposed to our aluminum block AND aluminum cylinder head. Nothing against our engines, they're great and they can handle their fair share of power, but a cast iron block tends to be able to handle a bit more power if you know what I'm saying.

I think the best thing to do is preventative maintenance if your dash isnt cracked. At peterbilt we sell Zephyr products like clay bars, polishing wheels, buffing stuff...etc,they also sell interior protectant, which brings back your origenal shine, not super glossy like armor all(which I think speeds up the damaging process the Sun can cause)Anyways the second best uv protectant/renewer was Meguirs at least as far as Ive used.
My dash is still in like new condition,as were previous vehicles this dash is very exposed under the glass and the plastic? its made of is sensitive to sun exposure.
Also noted The GS is the ****,cant find a honda even close to as to rival the uniqueness of the eclipse, unless its the s2000,but then put the Evo up against that and youve got a race, but in the eclipse/civic realm of things the Eclipse is the dominator in most categories - the dash, the weight, and rear drums arent that big of a deal and the handling+ ground clearence, torque and displacement allow for bigger gains. My girlfiend owns a 91 Honda Accord and no contest, and my dad owns a 2001 Accord 4cyl,no contest.
A 91 gsx watch out!
