hi i have a 1996 2.8TD mitsubishi challenger and have just got a new seal for my fuel pump. had to take the power steering pump off, the vacume pump off and the fuel pump off. put new pump seal on and put it all back again but when i did it took ages to start up and does not sound right there is allso alot of black smoke coming from the exhaust can someone please help

Did the injection distributor move in position/timing thru this process when making the repairs?

Either that or you have air entering the system from a loose joint or bad seal.

have lined all marks up as they were have noticed one of the injector pipes is loose at the pump end and is p#####g out diesle will try that first

the big 5" gear on thr fuel pump did get turned around when i took the pump off but i turned it back to where it was

have been told there are cams inside the pump and i have messed the timming up so i took the pump back out and turned the gear around untill it was just about to come out of number one but how do i know if the engine is ready to take number one the engine could be on number four for all i know please help i have been scratching my head for 4 days now
