Just wondering if anyone has info on optimal shifting RPM for gas milage for the 2008 Lancer GTS.

Cheers

I usually shift between 2500-3000 rpm to get good gas mileage.

Thx, i was just at the dealership for my 6000km and they said pretty close to that. @ 120 km i am at 3600 but thats the norm for these, they are typically higher than other cars in the class.

Cheers

Ok here is what i do to get 28+mpg (sitting at 33mpg). Now normally its at 18-22 because of speeding and racing  but i pay for premium gas because of all my aftermarket parts and prices are killer. ok first off CRUISE CONTROL is the best way to build it up. as for shifting, keep it under 4k. reason for this is that MIVEC kicks in at 4.5k but will build up at around 4-4.25k. if you keep it under that, your gonna notice a HUGE difference in gas milage. oh and one more thing, if you want to save some more gas, dont try to see how fast you can get up to the speed limit.

p.s. invest in new exhaust and intake. the intake will increase the amount of air your car takes in but removing that oversized stock and replacing with sri or cai will 'smooth out' the mpg and the exhaust will get rid of that gas-tank size stock exhaust that restricts a lot more air then you think. yes more hp means less mpg BUT if you dont race it around and just do the above, you will be above the rated hwy for this car

Hoped this helped

lazytree - out of curiosity what performance mods do you have that require higher octane gas?

SimmoES- i never said require, its the fact that i just want a cleaner burning gas flowing in my car. its also made a somewhat smoother ride and my mpg on unleaded is 25-28 and premium is 28-33(sitting at 33). i know ill probably get bad replys but its just something i like.

well you said "because of my aftermarket parts" - so i figured u had to use premium.
anyways, on topic, by adding exhaust, you will never hurt your MPG. You will in fact improve it, as there is no stress on engine. You arent really adding more horses to the engine, you are letting more hp transfer from crank to wheels.

Best shifting point is more or so under 3K rpm for best fuel savings. It is bad to shift under 2K rpm as you are putting stress on the tranny.
MIVEC kicks in at 3800

Actually cruise is going to hurt your gas mileage. Your engine has to work overtime to keep you at the one speed and has to constantly adjust. If you have a steady foot on the pedal you would be better off and can adjust before you go up hills and down.
Also keep the windows up, its more efficient to use the A/C than to have the windows down

Windows up and A/C on at highway speeds (over 45) saves fuel, but below those speeds windows down saves more fuel. Either way i drive with my windows down almost anywhere i go because i smoke. but once i hit that highway windows up and i just turn the fan on. no a/c, a/c robs engine power to put power to the compressor.

Makes me wonder how accurate/off the MPG calculator on the dashboard really is. I have a CVT and I try to keep it under 2K once I hit a decent cruise speed (30 to 45) and I get about 25-33 MPG (according to the dash). Up'ing the RPMs decreases the MPG.

I recently installed Injen's CAI and I've noticed my average MPG calculator to be... well busted. I can see by my trip odometer that I've gotten more mileage on this tank than previous to the intake, but the average MPG calculator rarely goes over 18 MPG.

As if I hadn't made it clear in all previous topics, I probably get the worst MPG out of all the Lancers in America. I average about 18 MPG... God I hate stop lights!!!

Yeah Running with A/C definetly robs the engine power, most of the time when making overtaking or climbing up a stiff hill i tend to off the ac to gain extra power.Hope the 2.4 L engine on the 2009 Lancer fixed these woes :D

i dont think its possible to get "good gas" while using a CVT in sports mode. maybe the highest i got was about 18 and the lowest was about 9

For me to get the best MPG I shift at about 2500 rpm unless climbing up a hill which I might not shift till around 3000 rpm. I also use my cruise control constantly. As for windows, I love the feel of the warm California sun and air so I leave them down on the streets, but do roll them up on the freeway most the time. I get about 20+ MPG on the streets and about 30+ on the freeway. That is unless I'm racing every other Lancer and EVO I see driving :P

Well depending on driving conditions, 1/2 my commute is freeway and the other more stop than go traffic but generally 15 MPH, 30MPH, 45MPH, 60MPH. I will at times be in 4th or 5th gear on a 30 MPH road to squeeze a little extra MPG and sometimes heavier on the throttle.
I get about 26-30 combined fuel econ with the A/C on. I would welcome a 6th gear to boost the bottom line.
