It may be easier and less time consuming to just replace the mast . I had posted instructions and a pic of how to replace the power mass in teh GTO , 3000GT forum. The mass may be im guessing 16-25 bucks $USD. The words are a little distorted on the image. The cap nut at the top of the antenna base yu need to remove it . after yu take it off , Gentlly pull up , then have sumone turn the radio on , as it comes up yu pull it ouot, the whole thing should come out , watch to see which way it comes out, (the toothed side is usually always facing foward) After removing the old cable , leave switch on , take new mast and lower the cable in the way the old one came out . once it has dropped in a bit til it stops, have sumone turn the radio off and the motor will pull the rest of it in. After the cable has pulled all the way in put the cap screw nut back on . Then turn the radio back on to make sure the power mast antenna fully extends and retracts. Ive always put a little engine prep grease or white litium grease or even bearing grease on the chord of the new power mast. The reason the old ones usually break is because they get dry and brittle frum winding and unwindimg. This helps out. Attached thumbnail(s)

Hi, I need to replace my antenna mast (1999 eclipse gs) and KiT TeUnG 2549's post seems helpful, if only I knew how to remove the cap nut. I tried using a wrench and even simply pulling at the broken antenna mast (after the radio was on and the motor stopped), but nothing seems to even move. I tried turning it anti-clockwise hoping it would loosen out, but no luck there. Also removed the screws and the side plastic panel inside the trunk to expose the motor and the casing, it makes the winding noises with radio on/off, but I don't see how to release the nut from inside without removing the whole mounting. Attached are three pictures: Broken antenna mast Motor casing (behind the plastic panel) Top of the casing where it latches with the nut from inside I feel a little stupid :( Am I missing something? :puzzled:
