If you have a port underneath the sob, then you are not porting because it is hitting the wood under the box. Also, if you fire straight up, you need to remove the hatch cover... which is going to greater open the possibility of theft.
12" inch subs are really only any good for rap... if you listen to rock or techno, you will probably wanna go with a 10" because the sub responds quicker.
Type r's are a wimpy sub built for people who want loud for cheap. They don't realize how sloppy they sound until you put them next to a good sub like infinity, eclipse, boston, JL, or the likes.
Whatever you do, don't buy kicker.
Get a single 10", put it in a sealed box. Get a head unit with a sub-out function. It will be the extra kick you want, without being obnoxious.
If you want, you can pm me or go look at the pinned guide at the top of the audio/video forum.

QUOTE(Yahn @ May 31 2008, 11:54 PM) Do people still have that hatch cover?
I took mine out, tierd of the rattling and pain in the assness of it.....
first off, a single 12 with 1000 watt RMS for rap. make sure it is a quality sub. possibly pioneer, but i lean towards pioneer for nearly everything except for their amps. i know nick will kill me for say this, but it has to be said! their amps are crap until you use the manufactures warranty after you blow the amp, once it gets back it is 10 times better than when you bought it new. i would suggest if you buy a pioneer amp blow it on purpose and have them rebuild it. yeah it takes a long time to get it back, but once you do, oh man, they are awesome. ( to blow any amp is easy, just take one set of speaker wires that is connected to the amp and touch it to the power wire. it will instantaneously blow your internal resistors.) anyways, if your looking for great sound response with lots of loud tones the cheap little 12" Pyle square is really good.(i know you hate square subs nick, but they handle to me like it they were a cross between a 12" and a 10") if your looking for speakers to run rock: metal, punk, Emo. get some 10's if your looking for great jazz or country speakers get some 8's. if your looking for some all around speakers i would suggest getting one 10" and one 8" that way you get most of your low tones, and nearly all of your mid tones. now, if you want great treble, replace all your stockies. even if you have a infinity system, those stock speakers with the paper cone are crap. they suck big time. now if your looking for a great guide to stereo's equipment and stereo instillation, check out the guide nick, aka bobthecow, has posted in the audio sub-forum. it is by far one of the most definitive guides to stereo equipment and instillation that i have ever read. here is the link to make it easy. http://www.mitsubishi-forums.com/t18533-qu...nstallation.htm i do hope this helps you out more.

so put it to the fuse area then, good grief. also if you knew as much about stereo's as i do you would not be talking crap. but obviously you don't know ****! i have been installing stereo's in cars since i was 16 back in 1997. i have been a professional installer since i was 17, and then i ran my own stereo instillation business on the side for extra cash up until last year. i haven't done much recently because i moved from Utah to California, however i think i could possibly know a little more about stereo's than you do.
if you were more than just a frequent visitor of the 1G/2G eclipse sub-forum and went into other sub-forums you would know that, but since your just a one sub-forum twit, you don't know anything about me. the worst idea you ever heard was that little voice in your head telling you to post what you just did. if you weren't such a ignorant person you would understand that.
and who are you to talk? your the one telling him to get a ported box and then basically plug the port........if he wanted a leaky sealed box he can just under tighten or strip his speaker mounting screws. what a moronic response! you want him to put a ported box on its port. yeah not exactly what i would say sound advice.
most common ported enclosures have the port on the same side of the speaker, or on the sides, not on the back of the box. so pointing the port down while pointing the speaker up is not really a option unless he makes his own box, or has a shop make one.
now in reference to pointing the speaker towards the glass. that is in a matter of opinion. if you want cleaner punchier sound so you hear the vocals and drum slaps better (rock) you point the speaker towards you. if you want lower deeper rumbling sound longer bass tones (RAP) you point it towards the back. if you want a in between the two sound (set up for both but not as quality) you point it up or sideways. also dropping the back seats helps with the whole louder sound, as the sound waves are closer together and travel towards you faster without bouncing around your trunk and partially deadening, i.e. lengthening your sound waves.
as far as loudest sounds the competition level audio shops will almost always tell you to have a ported box with the port on the same side as the speaker. then they usually point your speakers to the rear of your vehicle very first to attempt to find your "sweet frequency" they will then adjust your EQ on your deck, then also your power boost and frequency output on your amp to find this sweet frequency. if you don't know what the "sweet frequency" is then don't even talk to me about stereo equipment and set up. i can talk all day about Equalizing your deck and amp to maximize your sub frequency response so it achieves more than what it is rated at, but i guess you wouldn't know anything about that.
i have owned 4 pioneer amps, 3 of which as soon as i bought them i purposely blew them so i could have them rebuilt. if you just send a working amp back to them they will send it back and say that nothing was wrong with it. i accidentally blew my first pioneer amp, and after i got it back i never again hit its it heat protection switch, nor did it blow any fuses. this is something very uncommon in the pioneer amps with RMS wattage over 1200 watts. i'm not just saying it i have experienced it. pioneer amps stock from the factory are crap and tend to over heat, and blow after about 6 months to a year. if you get them rebuilt they will last for years.
