Ok, i'm sure this sounds silly. But i'm thinkin of giving up my truck for one of these cool little cars. I was wondering if there is a receiver hitch available for these cars? I would only tow about 500 to 1000 lbs at most maybe a utility trailer or at most a motorcycle. thanks for your input.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...0186862346&rd=1

Here is a link to a guy on E-Bay that has been selling hitches for our cars. I have been watching his price for a while now. He constantly changes it from like $130-140 somethin, to what you see now. Overall $150 or less shipped isn't too bad.

Best bet is to call the dealership & verify the exact amount the car can tow. I know it is in the owners manual...but I like asking the dealership just to see if they have had anyone come back with issues after towing.

Thank you for that....I only thought about getting the hitch so I could put my bike rack on it...or one of my "baskets". I have left over parts from my TrailBlazer...though that was the larger of the hitches...I would have to buy a reducer. But towing with the Lancer....not for me.
I have a 2003 Avalanche 2500 (with a measly 2100miles on it) with the ever so economical 8.1L slightly modded in there. Now THAT is a tow monster!

Another thing is if you have Auto cvt i think its not very healthy for the transmission if you do often towings.

Hey there,

sorry to bring this thread back from the dead. Which section of the manual does it mention this?

Thanks

I was looking through the lancer accessory catalog for either AUS or JAP, and there was a hitch for our car. Why would MITSU sell one for our car if they didn't want you towing with it??

I'm looking right now for where I saw that....

I've put a towbar on my Lancer...dealer sorted it out for me...it tows fine. I think the USA models are little 'gayer' and are too soft for towing :gunsmilie:

Haha, just kidding guys!!!

There's other things you could use a hitch for besides towing a vehicle/trailer.
Things that immediately come to mind are:
* Bike Rack
* BBQ Grill
* Ex

True, but you would think they would say that in the catalog, or offer some of those products, like the roof rack. They sell the roof rack, and also the bike rack accessory for the roof rack. Then again, the way Mitsu corporate is, you are prob right and they don't tell you to not tow anything until after its installed....figures..

If I read you correctly, no, they clearly state in the manual that you are not to tow anything with the car.

1) It's much harder on the transmission -- especially the CVT -- when you increase inertial mass via a trailer or other vehicle. The manual transmission likely would handle it better, but the clutch itself may not.
2) It's harder to nail down warranty-covered repairs when the damage could have been caused by hauling an extra 1000lbs behind the car.
3) The unibody itself likely has not been designed to support towing operation.. even with a class 3 hitch (as funny as that would look on this car).

It's just easier for them to state "Do not tow anything" than to deal with issues later on. We all know Mitsubishi isn't in the greatest of financial states, so why bother adding additional headaches...

It doesn't mention anything about not towing in my manual, so I guess the different markets have different things.

There's a pic of my car with towbar...looks fine.

If you can tow with a Porsche Boxer you can tow with a lancer. Probably not the CVT but the manual should not be a problem towing small things.
