OK, I have HIDs but I still haven't figured out how to disable the DRLs (afeudale's method still doesn't work for me, he's still trying to help too... awesome guy), so what I do is I leave my HIDs on all the time. When I leave, I turn on my HIDs, put the car in neutral, and release the e-brake. Well tonight, I didn't turn on my HIDs right away. I held down the brake to get my car into neutral and I noticed my city lights turned on (I parked on the street and my girlfriend's white CR-V was parked in front of me, I saw the light reflection).

Baffled by this experience, I checked that the headlight switch was off. I turned on my city lights and turned them off. I noticed that when I switched between off and city lights, the city lights actually got brighter. I was like how in the hell?!? I then realized that when the headlight switch is in the off position and I press down on my brakes, the city lights will turn on and run at a lower brightness.

Has anybody else experienced this? Am I the only one?

The HIDs are plug and play. I didn't "cross" anything.

Try it for yourself. Turn on the car and leave your light switch set to off. Have somebody press the brakes while you look at your city lights (or vice versa).

The CITY LIGHTS got brighter, my DRLs weren't on to begin with because I did afeudale's DRL bypass option #3. My city lights still turn on if I press my brakes when the light switch is in the OFF position.

Bump, can anybody else test to confirm this? I don't think that I am the only one...

I have LEDs for my city lights if that makes any difference.

That is by far the dumbest thing I think mitsubishi has ever done in a car... Lets make the front lights shine when the driver hits the brakes...

yeah.

I found out the solution... thanks to manybrews. Apparantely the ECU has certain functions that allow it to compensate for burned out bulbs. Since LEDs have no resistance, the car thinks it's just a burned out bulb but still supplies power.

The LEDs I used for my brake lights had like 258904235 LEDs on them. Huge lack of resistance triggered my city lights to function as brake lights. I don't know why the city lights and not the tail lights... but oh well.

+1 to Mitsu for this.
