Well, you can get valve covers painted for $45 so heat resistant paint is not that expensive.

Looks very nice, well done,

2 issues with the spray paint;

1-Paint chipping, 2-  I heard you need to use heat resistant paint for the engine cover??.. I got quoted 900.00$ to get the engine cover and the fuse box cover painted red...

I was shocked... But body shop guy told me its cuzz he has to use to heat resistant paint, which is very expensive...
*

Dude you could probably ship it to me and have me do it for cheaper! Seriously! I did mine with engine spray paint and clear coat in red not that long ago.... no chipping or anything. And hes pulling **** out his **** if he says its expensive. You can buy it at autozone. :P
Did the whole job for about $10 and a little bit of time. I have used this spray paint on multiple car engines never had a problem

It looks great, excellent job mate !
How can you prevent it from chipping ?
*

I'm not an expert on pain but I would say perhaps some sort of protective clear coating?
Or 3m, but that would be quite time consuming to do on the grille and would take much effort to make it look proper.

As for myself I'm waiting for someone to crash a Lancer with the black grille and then I'll just buy that from second hand parts and won't paint mine :P

I painted my engine cover and spark plugs cover with regular white plastic paint ($15 for a can). I had it on for a few months now and I have nothing pealing at all.
Ok I guess I gave it another coating (just one) with heat resistant caliper paint too.
Either way the entire thing cost me less than 40 bucks probably and just a little bit of time.

By the way, did you strip off the chrome from the grill or did you just paint over it?
*

I stripped it off and sort of sanded it a bit

Bad ace my man. You sir deserve a brew

I really like the front grill painted that way. The EVO's sort of look like that but have a much wider opening that widens up at the bottom. Personally I think you got way more style than an EVO, cuz.

Let us know how the paint holds up, especially for the under hood stuff.

Just make sure you wait a week or so before putting the clear coat on. Otherwise you run the risk of cracking. Hotter weather will help in cure faster, but yous guys in Canada will probably have to wait

I think it looks great! I especially like the engine cover. I don't think it will get hot enough to cause the paint to bubble or loose cohesion.

I'd paint mine but my cars black and I don't know how any other color would look.

The more I think about it, $900 to paint two items is rediculously expensive! I wouldn't get anything done there!

Before I decided to do it myself, I went to a body shop and they told me it would be around 150 for what I did, so that's why I decided to do it myself. But $900...****. I spent less than $50 in all that I did

I used the  Dupli-Color Metal Specs - MS400 Ocean Blue:

That "Metal Specks" Paint looks great. It's boiling point according to the MSDS sheet is around 0-318 F or 18-172 C. Quite a range.

Have you had any heat issues yet with the engine cover or fuse box paint?

The way I look at it, our engine cover is already a plastic material anyway. So is heat such a huge issue with that particular piece as compared to an actual engine casing(where obviously it would be)?
